Valentine’s Day at School

There was a big celebration of Valentine’s Day at school today. The kids exchanged valentines (we gave DumDums and pencils) and the kids had a special presentation to the parents at the end of the day. Luckily Mama was home today so she was able to watch too.

All the kids had worked hard over the past two weeks practicing some love songs, making ukuleles, cutting out hearts, and making necklaces for each of their parents.

They all performed for us this afternoon, strumming their ukuleles and singing 4 songs.

Then they handed out their gifts for us. We didn’t even know Janie could cut out a heart already! What a nice job she did. The ukuleles also had rubberbands that made noise when you pluck them. Very clever.

Before we left school, all the kids decorated their own cookies and ate them (of course).

To celebrate what a good job she did, we took her to SuperDuper and she ate about 75% of this burger!

We took the train home after dinner and then Janie played her ukulele some more.

She also insisted that we both wear our leis this evening before bed and snapped a photo.

Let it Go…Go!

https://youtu.be/qEIW_z2FglQ

Uncle Johnny captured this impromptu karaoke moment of Janie and Alice singing their favorite song “Let it Go” from “Frozen”.  At 18 months apart, they both know the song very well in their own ways. While Janie is singing the songs and doing the gestures from the movie, so is Alice with so much more enthusiasm and pizzazz.  If you listen carefully, you can hear Janie singing the words while Alice sings the last word of each line.  Love. It.

Janie calls her Baby Brother Peanut and will randomly give him hugs and kisses.

This evening, she also sang to him.  In the middle of her song, he kicked a few times.  She saw it happen and then felt it with her hand and her face.  It was such a cute moment to watch from this view.

Apparently, he’s developed enough to hear her. They’re gonna have so much fun together.

It’s a Small World

This afternoon, Janie was singing “It’s a Small World” and climbed into the laundry basket to re-enact her experience at Disneyland.

She later asked for a stick “to push the water” and I realized she was asking for an oar. She also kept saying, “we gonna crush the duck!”

I guess there was a duck swimming in the water in front of their boat while they were on the ride. It’s amazing how much she can remember and recall nowadays.

Fish-tastic Friday

IMG_4236

Both Mommy and Daddy got the day off so Janie had a “no-school-no-work” day.  It started out in bed with Daddy watching videos of people building aquariums.

IMG_4240

Then we went to the Academy of Sciences to see lots of fish.

Her favorite parts were seeing the scuba divers in the big tank and touching the sea urchin.

For lunch, we ate out on the terrace. She played with her Nemo magnets while we waited for the food to arrive.

IMG_4243

Janie had asked for clams earlier in the morning so she got a big bowl of clam chowder.  She was a little disappointed that it didn’t have the shells in there but ate it anyway.

IMG_4255

Next stop was Aqua Forest Aquarium where she went to see her favorite black goldfish while Daddy did a little shopping.

IMG_4267

It was taking a while, so she went out front to blow bubbles.

She made up a bubble song and dance on the sidewalk.

She also got a special Easter cookie from the bakeshop down the street and went straight for the eye and the wing made of icing.

Firetruck Song

http://youtu.be/J7BPvqHz5Dc
As she was drawing, she started to sing a song I hadn’t heard her sing before.

Hurry hurry, drive the firetruck.
Hurry hurry, drive the firetruck.
Hurry hurry, drive the firetruck.
Ding ding ding ding ding!
