Happy Mother’s Day!

Janie made this for me on Friday with Mirian’s help, of course.

It’s another new hairstyle! She has TWO braids in her hair today.

When I was pregnant, I noticed that while I watched episodes of Glee, Janie would kick and move around a lot. What’s interesting is that it’s still the only program that she will stop to watch. She’ll even bounce or dance to the music and would be most interested when the kids on the show are dancing. Last night before bedtime I was watching an episode and Janie hung out on the couch with me for about 10 minutes without wanting to move onto a new activity. Look at her eyes glued to the tv. This past month I also noticed that she will smile and clap whenever she hears music or singing. Looks like she might be destined for dance and music lessons!

Janie went to Manhattan Beach today with Mommy, Uncle Johnny, and Auntie Joy. She got a warm-up by holding Auntie Joy and Mommy’s hands.

Then she took off on her own!

What a big girl!!

Here’s a video of her in action!
Janie had her first taste of cake and nearly finished the whole slice of paradise cake.

Here’s her first touch…

…and taste.

Love the face full of frosting!!

She’s still going!

We went out for dinner tonight and our little girl got her very own little seat attached to the table. She ate rice, tofu, cauliflower, and chicken on her own like a big girl.

She LOVED the carrot juice I gave her and wouldn’t let go of it to finish her dinner.

Look how focused she was on her meal. She certainly loves to eat!!
Here she is enjoying her dessert. She also got some of the mango and avocado off my plate.

This was Janie when she was all done. The seat allows her to stand on the booth seat but she hasn’t figured out how to get out yet. Take a look at that tummy full of food!

This afternoon we took Janie to the San Francisco Zoo. It started out with a few showers on our drive over but by the time we arrived, it had stopped and didn’t rain the rest of the day. This was Janie’s first trip to a zoo and there was a lot to see!

At the entrance, we were greeted with a free sample of chocolate milk and the Nesquik bunny. He’s much cuter than any Easter bunny I’ve ever seen.

The first exhibit was the African Savanna and Janie saw the giraffes!

They were close enough and big enough for Janie to see.

They didn’t have any elephants at this zoo but they had a statue of a baby elephant.

She seemed to enjoy watching the ducks and swans in the pond.

The best part for her was the Children’s Zoo. The prairie dog exhibit was really cute and the glass was low enough for Janie to stand and watch. This photo looks like she’s saying, “I want the chubby one, mama!”
It was so cute watching her go back and forth along the glass.

What a fun afternoon at the zoo!!

Janie is 49 weeks old today and it’s been an eventful week indeed. On Thursday, she took her first independent steps! We also had family over to visit, which was a special treat.

Only 3 more weeks until she’s a year old. Where does the time go?

Janie flew home today. Here’s a photo of her trying to get Uncle Jason’s attention at the airport in Maui. What a funny girl.

The flight from Maui to Oahu was short but she was hungry and cried for the last 10 minutes of the flight. Bummer. Luckily for everyone on the plane from Honolulu to SF, she actually slept a total of two hours.

All the grown-ups were served a free hot meal and Janie wanted a piece of the action.
