Alice’s birthday party

DSCN3469

Today, we celebrated Alice’s birthday with a big party.  Janie helped set-up the table with Uncle Johnny and Daddy.

She had a buffet of tasty Thai food including noodles, rice, chicken, fruit, and Mommy’s favorite tapioca balls.

She made another bag at the craft table and insisted on having 3 eyes and a bunch of puff balls on it.

This girl loves gluing stuff!

Janie was also very good about telling Mommy when she had to use the toilet.  We still had pull-ups on her but she managed to stay dry!

IMG_9603

Here she is with 2nd cousins Cole and Brandon and Cousin Alice, the birthday girl!

IMG_9590

Of course there was cake and it was paradise cake again from King’s Hawaiian!  She had the same cake for her first birthday!

Alice woke up in time to blow out the candle.  Unfortunately, she didn’t want any part of the cake.

Toward the end of the party, Janie was tired since she stayed up through her nap.  Here she is pretending to sleep on the bench next to Daddy.  Funny girl.  I wish she actually did sleep on that bench.  What a fun party!

Halloween 2014

DSCN3362

This year, Janie dressed up as Piglet.  Mommy made her costume and it turned out ok.

She didn’t really know what to expect this year so we took her to the Halloween Festival in Cerritos instead of going trick-or-treating.

IMG_9453

She carried her treat bag around like a big kid and did a great job with the games and everything.

IMG_9449

Alice slept through the games and we were lucky to find this Winnie the Pooh in the game area.

She also wanted to pose for a funny family photo.

Toward the end, Alice woke up and joined us for a group photo.

On the walk back to the car, Alice and Janie hung out on the grass to get a few Tigger and Piglet pictures.

Trip to SoCal

IMG_9384

This morning we were greeted with some much-needed rain and packed up for a trip down to Southern California.

IMG_9387

The first part of the journey was a light rail ride down to the BART station.

IMG_9390

At the BART station, Janie patiently waited for her train to the SFO.  Meanwhile, she waved to all the trains that zoomed by.

IMG_9401

She had such a fun time riding BART.  She was so excited earlier this morning at home that she said “No nai-nai.  Nai-nai on train.”  It was a nice long 30-minute ride so she enjoyed her morning milk and snack while looking out the window.

IMG_9403

IMG_9406

At the airport, we lined up for our turn to board the plan.  While we waited, Janie had a good time polishing the Southwest Airlines queue pillars.

IMG_9409

On the plane, she got a seat by the window and tried a new snack: double-chocolate granola snacks!  What a tasty surprise!

IMG_9417

She was also very excited to have her tray table down and actually waited until the man over the speaker said it was ok to do so.  She was such a great little traveler today.

IMG_9422

Once we arrived at LAX, she played with these funny telephones that have cords attached to them.  She even heard a lady on the other end (the recorded message saying to dial “0” or insert coins).

Train to San Mateo

IMG_9198

For dinner, we rode the train to San Mateo to meet up with Auntie and Uncle.  It was also our way of escaping the World Series crowds.

IMG_9204

IMG_9206

IMG_9207

Janie sat in her own seat by the window and enjoyed her after-nap snack.

IMG_9210

Then we watched all the cool stuff that we passed on our way down to our destination.

IMG_9214

She was also very good about staying in one place while we waited to disembark.

IMG_9225

It was still a little early for dinner so we stopped for ice cream at CREAM.  That’s where we met up with Auntie and Uncle.

The store was nice and empty so there was plenty of room for Janie to do laps and dance at the same time. I wasn’t a fan of her new fall-on-her-knees move. We squashed that one pretty quickly. Otherwise, it was funny watching her perform for the girls behind the counter.

IMG_9227

As we walked across the street to dinner, it started to pour.  Janie started out walking with Uncle Jason but mid-way through she screamed “CARRY!!”  Everyone was soaked.

IMG_9229

After dinner, we still had an hour before our train would arrive so we went to a bar nearby to see part of the baseball game.

IMG_9237

Janie had some milk at sat on a bar stool with all the grown-ups.

IMG_9245

IMG_9250

By the time we got to the train station, she was so tired.

IMG_9243

But not too tired to wave to the train coming from the other direction!

IMG_9255

The ride home was comfy but the people seated around us were pretty loud and rowdy.  Oh well.

With the Giants in the World Series, all the restaurants in the neighborhood have been really busy.

IMG_9147

There was no game tonight so Janie and Mommy went out to eat.

IMG_9155

Toward the end, we stuck around for Mommy to watch some football and Janie got to play with her Lego app on the iPad.

cuddles

IMG_9143

This evening, Janie crawled into my lap and we cuddled under her blanket while watching Curious George before bed.  It was very reminiscent of when we used to do this all the time when she was a little dumpling of a baby.

dinner outing

IMG_8992

Auntie and Uncle came over for dinner tonight.  Janie was so excited to take the bus to the restaurant!  Daddy did some squats while we waited at the bus stop.

IMG_8994

IMG_8995

On the bus, she took a selfie and also had a FaceTime call with Ankong and Ama.

IMG_8996

She did a good job holding hands when we got off the bus.

IMG_9001

IMG_9023

Janie snacked on an orange while we waited for the food and then slurped up most of Mommy’s lobster bisque.

IMG_9025

IMG_9026

It was a nice evening for eating outside with the family.

IMG_9029

On our way home, we rode the train.  Janie had a good time riding on Uncle Jason’s shoulders in the train station.

IMG_9032

Once back at the house, Janie played a little more with Auntie Jia before they went home.

Mommy’s Birthday

IMG_8516

Today is Mommy’s birthday and in preparation for the dinner party, Janie helped out with buying food and supplies for hot pot.  Here is her bouquet of spoons.

IMG_8523

She liked them so much that she almost didn’t give them up when it came time to pay for them.  Luckily she did just long enough for the lady to scan them.

IMG_8529

When it was time for dinner, Janie ate lots of rice, meat, and mushrooms.

IMG_8533

She also got to hang out with her aunties and Baby Avia.

IMG_8544

The best part was helping Mommy blow out her candles.  Good job, KK!
