Bath Expressions

IMG_0161

Peanut usually likes his bath…well at least at the beginning.  For some reason, his expression here reminds me of his cousin Toni.

IMG_0163

Then he gradually realizes he’s all done and starts to cry.

IMG_0162

Waaaahhh!!!

IMG_0166

Then once he gets all bundled up again, he’s happy again.

IMG_0168

I think he likes his new panda towel.

Happy Preschooler

IMG_9255

It’s so nice to see Janie so engaged when I show up in the afternoon to pick her up from school.  Can you spot our little girl in her classroom?  She was busy at the water table and concentrating very hard on carefully pouring water and water beads down the long tower/tube that she made.

IMG_9256

I quietly walked over to see what she was doing and looked up with a surprised look on her face.  Then she said to her teacher, “my mom and grandma came to pick me up today!”

IMG_9257

And then she continued to play a little longer – not in any hurry to go home.

IMG_9258

She also remembered to wash her hands before giving her teachers a hug and heading home.  It’s funny how she can wash her hands thoroughly and quickly at school on her own but she dilly dallies at home and makes a big wet mess in our bathroom.

Preschool Visit

IMG_7771

This morning, Janie went to visit her new preschool for the first time.  It was scheduled for 11-12pm and we were asked to pack a lunch for her.  We all went together and took the train to school.  That was an exciting change for her.

IMG_7787

Mama and Dada got to join her for the hour and we all met her teachers and classmates.

IMG_7788

She got to play with toys and briefly played with two 4-year-old girls who will be going to the older class next month.

IMG_7789

Before lunch, everyone sat on the rug for a couple stories.  She got to sit on Dada’s lap today.

IMG_7798

IMG_7799

Next was potty time and Janie used one of the little toilets all on her own and washed her hands at one of the Janie-sized sinks too.

IMG_7795

She joined the kids for lunch and was so happy to see that Dada had packed her one of her favorite meals: Kao Mun Gai (chicken rice with sauce, cilantro, and cucumber).  Dada had to leave for work but Mama stayed with her for lunch.  She opened the containers on her own and ate like a big girl.

IMG_7797

On our way out, we saw where the kids will be napping.  It’s in the room next door and they all have their own cots with bedding and blankets that they brought from home.

IMG_7803

What a great first visit!  It was super easy considering Mama and Dada were there with her.  We will have to see how Thursday goes when we drop her off for 2 hours on her own.  This is the entrance to her new school.  It’s part of Bright Horizons and Marin Day Schools.  We hope she will love it.

IMG_0774

To celebrate a successful visit, Janie got a special treat while Mama and Yai had lunch.

IMG_7802

She got some orange jello from one of the dim sum carts.  Cool!!

IKEA

IMG_7118

This morning, we went to IKEA and got there a little before it opened.  I guess their cafe is open beforehand and they sell really cheap breakfast.  Mama also got free coffee.

IMG_7120

IMG_7121

Janie had some sausage while Mama had heart-shaped waffles.

IMG_7122

IMG_7131

What I love about IKEA is that everything is so kid-friendly from the bathroom sinks having step stools to the kid-sized rails on the stairs.

IMG_7125

Janie had a great time in the kid’s section.

IMG_7126

IMG_7129

She cooked, went through the tunnel, and loved the chair that has a shade that covers her up completely.

She sat so quietly inside at one point that she startled a person walking by when she popped out.

IMG_7132

For lunch, we picked up Thai food and ate with Mama’s friends at work.  What a fun morning!

IMG_7133

She even got a quick nap on the drive home.

Monterey: Day 2

IMG_6691

This morning, we got up early and went back to the aquarium at 9:30am when they opened.  It was much less crowded and Janie was able to see the rest of the exhibits in less than 2 hours.

IMG_6693

The kelp forest was really cool and she loved seeing the sharks.

DSC_6668

She was very scared of the water tunnel but was able to stand underneath with Dada.IMG_6714

We tried to take a photo together in the tunnel but you can’t tell that it’s water rushing over us.

IMG_6696

This was one of her favorite parts: the corral tunnel.

DSC_6691

She got to see a tank full of anemones, Nemos, and Marlins.

DSC_6676

In the morning, no one was crowding the penguins so she got a clear view of them.

She also went to the touch pool to feel some of the creatures on display.

DSC_6680

One cool thing about this aquarium is that they have Janie-sized sinks so Mama doesn’t have to pick her up to wash hands.  Wish we had one of these in all public restrooms.

IMG_6703

Janie rode on Dada’s shoulders to get a better look at the giant octopus.  He was huge!

IMG_6720

After the aquarium, we walked over to a breakfast place and Janie got to ride the train with Big GG while we waited for a table.

IMG_6722

They hooked her up with some crayons and she colored in the whale on her menu.

IMG_6723

We ordered her the “Mickey pancake” and it was SO BIG!  She ate the ear and that was all she could manage.

IMG_6689

Once breakfast was done, we checked out of what she calls our “Manta Ray (Monterey) House” and headed up to Redwood City to visit Toni and Thomas.  What a fun mini vacation!!

Early Bath

IMG_5965

After school, Janie said, “I threw up today.”  I couldn’t get details on why and when but she said, “I cried and teacher gave me a hug.”

IMG_5966

So, as soon as we got home, she got a bath.  It sure does cut down on the bedtime routine when bath time is at 5:30.
