We are camping in Oakland this weekend! Right after swim, we headed home, packed up the car, and drove up the hill to our campsite in Redwood Regional Park. The 0.8-mile hike up the hill from the car to the campsite with ALL our stuff was rough but we made it. By the time we had the tents up and dinner warmed, it was 9pm and everyone enjoyed Dada’s beef stew.
shopping and dinner
We went around the city in search of a demo jogging stroller today. We stopped at REI and two Sports Basements before finding what we were looking for.
Janie had a fun time trying on sunglasses.
Peanut tried one on too…for about one second.
We put Janie in the stroller to test out the fit and weight with a full-sized kid inside.
Meanwhile Peanut was doing some exploring on his own.
Then his big sister joined in on the fun.
Awww…hug.
After the “shopping” was done, we drove down to Millbrae to have dinner with Uncle Bang. We stopped at the car wash on the way since the kids were napping.
After dinner, we went to a fancy Safeway nearby and Janie had fun hanging out with Uncle Bang.
Pool Day
Isla and Rowan came over with Uncle Bang today and we spent the day at the pool. Fun!
Ferry Plaza
This afternoon, Janie rode her scooter with Dada behind her on a skateboard. They went down to the Ferry Plaza to meet up with Rowan and Isla.
They had ice cream and then played together.
Mama and Peanut came a little later to join in on the fun.
dinner guest
Uncle Bang came over after work today and had dinner with us before he and Dada went out to see a show.
Lots of visitors!
Today was filled with excitement for this little boy. It started out quiet with Yai. He was super alert and just hung out with her.
He later chatted with Ta over FaceTime and would turn to the screen each time Ta would say something. Maybe he likes his low voice.
Around lunch, Auntie Jia and Uncle Jason arrived and met him for the first time. Toni and Thomas were also here but they were either sleeping or eating. We’ll get a cousin photo next time.
Ama and Ankong also flew in last night and came to meet their newest grandson.
This is a big year for the Lao Family!
Uncle Bang and Auntie Vyl also stopped by to meet him in the afternoon.
He was much sleepier by then.
Here he is with his new buddy Rowan.
Auntie Teresa also came to say “hello” to him. I can’t wait for him to be big enough to follow Henry around.
July 4th at the Zoo!
Happy 4th of July! In the morning, we went to the SF Zoo and met up with Rowan and Isla.
We saw the usual animals but lots of them were sleeping this morning.
We had lunch together at noon and then it was off to the rides!! Dada’s company has special passes for the kids to get unlimited rides on the train and carousel so that’s what we did!!
The kids rode the train twice!
Once with Mama and Dada and the second time with Auntie Vyl and Uncle Bang.

Before leaving, the kids went on the carousel and had a great time.

We also tried getting photos of the kids all the together.
They were super silly and Janie took a selfie of the gang.
She also used Mama’s camera to take pictures of everyone. She’s getting pretty good at this! Maybe she can be Mama’s photography assistant one day.
She took all of these pictures!
What a fun morning!!
Year of the Horse
This evening, we went to Reese and Jack’s house for dinner to celebrate the Lunar New Year. We got this red top handed down to us from Mommy’s co-worker and it was perfect for this occasion. Everyone brought something to share and Janie feasted on Chap chae, Chinese sausage, Mommy’s chicken gravy over rice, and red bean pancakes.
She also got to play with the shopping cart without the threat of anyone stealing it from her.
There were also lots of toys and crayons to keep her entertained all evening.
Janie received a red envelope from Auntie Vyl and Uncle Bang. It actually had money inside! Thank you!!
She also received a pair of Hello Kitty socks (no picture) from Reese. That was so nice.
By the end of the evening, she was calling everyone “auntie” and “uncle” and even sat in Uncle Bang’s lap for a bit.
Happy Year of the Horse!
Backyard BBQ
Today we went to Rowan and Baby Isla’s house for a BBQ. Janie got to check out Baby Isla’s play mat and was thoroughly impressed.
She also found some of Rowan’s cool toys.
Outside, Janie played with the basketball and practiced walking in and out of the house.
She also enjoyed hanging out with Reese and trying to check out what she was doing.
Take a look at her trying to join the boys in their game of volleyball.
And we can’t forget the swing. Janie could have stayed here all day.
Phew! What an exciting day in the backyard! Gotta stay hydrated!
Another New Friend
This evening we went to CPMC to visit Auntie Vyl, Uncle Bang, and their brand new baby girl who was born this morning. She doesn’t have a name yet but Janie got a good look at her today and they met for the first time. Makes me realize what a big girl our Little Janie is now.
