Care Bear

This afternoon, Auntie Dot dropped off a Care Bear pillow that she made for Janie.  Unfortunately, Janie was sleeping and later woke up to her new friend.

When I showed her the bear, Janie couldn’t take her eyes off of it.  I think she likes Love-a-Lot Bear!  Thank you, Auntie Dot!

Bottle Baby

This week I decided to officially try sleep-training Janie.  I read the book and decided to pump and feed around the clock for a few days to make sure Janie was getting enough to eat.

So, she’s been drinking about 150 mL (5 ounces) per feed 5 times per day.  She starts at 7 am and then eats every 4 hours (11 am, 3 pm, 7 pm, 11 pm).  She’s been taking a total of just under 24 ounces per day and sleeping 7+ hours through the night.  I’m afraid to say it but I think it’s working!  Man, I hope I didn’t just jinx us.

Bright-eyed

Our Janie is starting to get longer stretches of sleep at night.  It’s not consistently 8 hours but we’re close.  She sleeps between 4-9 hours per night and usually wakes up in a pretty good mood.

Look at how bright-eyed and alert she is after a good night’s sleep.  This morning I found her wide awake in bed talking to herself until I came by to unwrap her.

We’re not quite at 12-hour stretches yet but we’re pretty happy with her progress thus far.  Until then, Janie will just study the last few chapters.

8 hours!

We’ve been working on training Janie to sleep longer through the night these past couple weeks.  We do the same thing every night but it’s hit-or-miss whether we get a 6-hour stretch or 4-hour stretch at night.  So far we’ve had two 8-hour stretches within the past 7 days.  That included last night in which she slept 8 hours and 50 minutes!  She also woke up without crying.  In fact, I just found her bright-eyed and awake in bed making little squeaks to herself.  She usually cries during her morning diaper change because she’s hungry and impatient but today I was able to change her in complete silence. Weird.   After her morning feed, she was still in a great mood.  This is a video of her this morning.  Let’s hope this keeps up!!!
