When Janie saw these cupcakes in the window display, she pointed and said “ice cream”. Funny girl.
Afternoon Playtime
This is just a little slice of what Janie’s afternoons look like nowadays. She’s really into her “friends” lately.
Big GG neh-neh
This morning she thought that Big GG needed a nap. I helped wrap him up and she placed him on the floor and said “Big GG neh-neh on floor.”
By the way, “neh-neh” is our made-up word for sleeping. It came from all the way back to when we taught Koa to go to sleep in his bed when I told him to “go neh-neh”. Don’t know why I used that phrase but it will be forever in our family’s vocabulary.
Frozen
The other day Daddy turned on a clip from “Frozen” and Janie immediately called out “Elsa! Ana!” Hm…I guess she was paying attention when we watched it on Mother’s Day. Now she asks for the songs all the time. She’ll say “Elsa” or “snowman” and Daddy turns on the videos for her. I guess the Disney craze is starting. I wonder if she’ll recognize anyone when we go to Disneyland in December.
Oh and take a look at how she’s holding her fish magnet. She’s imitating Daddy holding the mouse. Funny girl.
afternoon snack
Janie surprises me with her vocabulary every day. This afternoon, she asked for “fruta” (fruit in Spanish) and also tried to say “por favor” (please in Spanish).
Snacking at the kitchen counter is her thing nowadays. Stone fruits are in season right now and she’s loving it.
Here’s a video of her snacking and talking. She’s mixing three languages in this video: English, Spanish, and Thai, which is typical of our daily conversations. I’m amazed at how flexible she is in her thinking. In the middle of the video, I asked “what’s that?” in Thai and she answered “nam” (water in Thai). Then she says “no nom” (no in English and milk in Thai). Then I asked “what are you eating?” in Spanish and she answered me in Spanish.
Fishing
We have this Fishing Puzzle that seems too difficult for a two-year-old but apparently Janie is starting to figure it out. I couldn’t believe my eyes when she was able to match the puzzle piece to just the shape on the board without a picture to match. She’s also loving the magnetic fishing aspect of the toy. In the video, you can hear her say her version of “help me”, which is more like “help you”. I’ve been trying to teach her to say that instead of crying or getting frustrated.
We also have a similar puzzle with cars and it’s a bit harder. However, it’s still fun to find the colors and numbers on the cars for now.
Stuffed Animal Day Care
Janie has always loved her stuffed animals and she’s now more and more creative with them.
Here she is having tea with them. She makes it a point to tell them the tea is “hot hot” and blows on the spoon before feeding it to her friends. She’s been paying attention to our mealtimes.
I also found her putting them all to bed for naptime in the kitchen. She purposely laid them all on their side or back and said “neh-neh” to each of them. She also laid down next to them like she was going to take a nap too.
Burlingame
This evening for dinner, we went to Burlingame to have dinner with Auntie Jia and Uncle Jason. She was so happy to see them and had fun hanging out with them during dinner.
This girl is drinking from a big cup now with less spilling. We just have to make sure there isn’t too much in the cup to start.
I love this picture. She’s always so happy to be with Auntie Jia.
After dinner, we stopped for ice cream. She tried some of Daddy’s cherry ice cream.
She also got her very own kid’s size rainbow sherbet. She shared with Mommy and was so happy to be able to hold the cup and spoon herself at the end.
coloring, counting, and drawing
mini books
Janie sat at the dining table for a good half-hour by herself. We opened the set of mini books she received from Auntie Jia and Uncle Jason today and had fun standing them up. If you don’t understand what she’s saying, one of the phrases is “one more book” when she’s standing them up. It’s cute to catch what she does when no one is sitting right in front of her. I also can’t believe she’s also trying to count them on her own. Maybe math will be her best subject in school.
