14 months

Look who turned 15 months today! It’s hard to believe that he’s a full-fledged toddler already.

img_6246

He’s done some cool things this past month:

  • Gross Motor: He’s been taking at least 3-4 steps on his own and can walk even farther by holding someone’s hand. He also learned how to stand up from the floor but Mama hasn’t been able to catch it on video just yet. He also likes to sit in his big sister’s reading chair and will also climb up onto the backrest. In Mexico, he learned how to climb up a few steps too.
  • Fine Motor: Big sister taught him how to clap his hands. He also mastered putting the coins in the piggy bank toy.
  • Speech: He says “na-na” for milk and makes lots of different sounds. His favorite sounds are “zh-zh”, “sh-sh”, and “ba-ba-ba-BAH!” Of course, “mama” is still a constant sound and we can’t tell if means Mama, more, mas, or mum-mum. It probably means all of them depending on the situation.
  • Social: He LOVES watching big sister and has been playing with her more too. We’ve really turned a corner with the two kids finally entertaining each other for prolonged periods of time now. He enjoys imitating sounds and gestures that she makes too.
  • Development: This boy has been a really big drool monkey and finally had two upper canines and two first molars pop out. He’s still drooling so I’m sure there’s more just waiting to cut through very soon. He’s still in Size 4 diapers and 18-24 month clothes.
  • Sleep: He falls asleep each evening very easily and sleeps through the night most nights now. Unfortuately, he’s still an early bird and will wake up around 6am talking to himself. He still takes two naps during the day and does best when he’s in his own bed (versus outside in the stroller).
  • Fun stuff: Mexico, train to San Jose, Muir Woods, Big Sister’s soccer practice, Dada and Mama’s birthdays
  • Favorite foods: sandwiches, bananas, really any fruit, broccoli, any meat, and noodles. His most favorite thing to do is feed himself with his fingers versus having Mama feed him with a spoon. He’s also drinking all his milk from a straw cup and he has his very own water and milk thermos when we go out.

He has been so much to have around and has become our comic relief for the family. It’s like having a human emoji in the house. He can go from super happy to super mad within just seconds of each other. He definitely doesn’t like it when you say “NO!” to him and will cry with you if he sees someone else crying. He will also laugh and smile so easily and seems to make friends with everyone he meets.

Muir Woods National Monument

img_6183

We woke up early this morning and headed to Muir Woods for the first time. They opened at 8 am and we were there early enough to get a parking spot in their lot and free admission.

img_6191

What a was nice about getting there early was that it was nice and cool and super empty!

img_6196

Janie brought her camera and had a fun time exploring and taking pictures of all the things that she found interesting.

She took lots of selfies too including this photo of her with Mama and Dada. Peanut was sleeping so he didn’t get included.

Here’s a photo of the “heart leaves”.

By the time we finished the trail, the sun came out in full force and so did the crowd. We stopped for a snack at the Visitors Center and Peanut woke up for his snack – a tuna sandwich!

img_6221

Janie got a pressed penny for doing such a good job on our mini hike and waiting until the end for a snack since food was not allowed on the trails.

img_6224

Peanut also got to stretch his legs and explore the area.

img_6232

The carved bears were pretty cool!

Peanut is not quite walking on his own yet but he does a pretty good job walking with a little help.He looks so pleased with himself.

What a fun morning walk in the woods!

Museum Membership

IMG_0065

Now that Peanut is a little older, moving a bunch, and oh so curious, we reinstated our membership to the Children’s Creativity Museum. Peanut went for the first time today with Mimi and enjoyed himself.

There were so many things to do and see!

Walk to Liberty Park

IMG_9576

The girls had some cake to burn so we all took a walk down to the shopping center down the street.

IMG_9578

The walk wasn’t long enough so some of us continued the walk down to Liberty Park. Janie and Alice walked with Uncle Johnny while Peanut got a stroller ride (and nap!) with Mama. Auntie Jia also came along so that Toni and Thomas could get a stroller nap in too.

IMG_9582

Part of the walk included going over the freeway.

IMG_9585

Janie did a good job staying close and not walking too far ahead.

IMG_9619

At the park, we met up with Auntie Joy, Ta, Dada, and Uncle Jason. The kids all enjoyed the playground there.

IMG_9587

Peanut loved the swing and the warm weather.

IMG_9598

It was pretty warm outside so he got to wear his new hat!

IMG_9615

Thomas also tried the swing today for the first time and wasn’t sure if he liked it or not. Janie helped push him a few times before he started to look really sad.

Wednesday

IMG_7543

Wednesdays are now reserved for another one of Mama’s doctor visits.  In the waiting room, Janie practiced her drawing.

IMG_7544

She played with her iPad during the 30-minute appointment while Yai played on her phone too.  When we got home, Mama got to take a nap while Yai took Janie for a walk to Safeway.

IMG_7546

For lunch, we had fried chicken and waffles at Yai’s favorite place.  Janie ate lots of chicken today.

IMG_7548

She walked home and did a good job holding Yai’s hand on the sidewalk.

IMG_7549

It was Yai’s turn to take a nap so Janie and Mama relaxed in bed watching Nemo.

IMG_7550

All the walking must have really tired her out because Janie took her first mid-day nap in two weeks.  Hooray for everyone!!

Rough Morning

IMG_5076

The morning started ok with an early visit to the mall to redeem a Groupon that was expiring today.  While Mommy took care of the transaction, Janie practiced her typing on one of the computers.

IMG_5079

When we were in the mall, she did a good job following directions and holding hands on the escalator.

IMG_5083

Unfortunately, it went downhill from there.  She insisted on walking and running on the sidewalk without holding hands.  She also didn’t want to ride in the stroller.

IMG_5086

In fact, she wanted to be like Daddy and put her hands in her pockets.   She walked part of the way and then got really tired and cranky.  It took us a very long time to get home.  By the time we did get home, we were all exhausted and she fell asleep.
