food preferences

IMG_1020

We went out for Thai food this evening and I realized during this trip that Janie seems to prefer ethnic food – especially Thai, Chinese, and Mexican.  Whenever we eat American food, she doesn’t seem to be as enthusiastic.

After a long day of eating almost nothing, this kid chowed down on coconut soup, rice, and meat.

oyster outing

IMG_0386

Since it’s supposed to rain for the next three days starting tonight, we went out for a walk.  We walked down to the Ferry Plaza to buy some bread and then stopped at Hog Island Oyster Co. for lunch.  On our way there, Janie took a cat nap and woke up as we were standing in line to be seated.

IMG_0387

It was actually pretty chilly outside so Janie loved having Daddy carry her so she could snuggle for warmth.

IMG_0388

We were seated by the window where everyone waits in line so it was like Janie was on display.

IMG_0389

There was a girl waiting right in front of our table and was getting grossed out by Janie slurping the raw oysters one by one.  That was pretty funny.

IMG_0390

She also ended up eating 8 of the clams out of Mommy’s clam chowder and 4 of the pickled veggies but refused the grilled cheese sandwich.  What a weird kid.

hungry

IMG_1397

This evening, Janie said, “Mama, KK hungry.”  When we asked what she wanted, she said “PIZZA!!” So that’s what we had.  She first had some minestrone soup.

IMG_0299

Then she had 3 mini slices of pizza with all the toppings.  She really was hungry.

Fine Dining

IMG_9797

We went to The Village Pub to celebrate Uncle Jason’s birthday tonight and it turned out to be a fancier restaurant than we had expected.  Luckily, Janie has had 2 1/2 years of training and really pulled through for us tonight.  She sat quietly in her highchair the whole time and we all had a very enjoyable meal together.  It started out with profiteroles that came out at the beginning of dinner.  Janie really liked them – probably because they had cheese inside.  She even got an extra one because Ama did not want hers.

IMG_9809

Janie also got her very own dish – mushroom consomme, which had lots of tiny mushrooms and three dumplings floating around.

IMG_9812

She scooped the broth very carefully and made sure there weren’t any mushrooms on the spoon.  She’s a purist when it comes to broth.

The spoon had to make a long journey to her mouth and she even tried to guard the broth with her other hand.  Mommy later fished out all the mushrooms and she ate the all one-by-one.  The dumplings were yummy too!

IMG_9816

Once she was finished with her soup, she said she was “all done”.  To keep herself entertained, Mommy handed her a stack of flash cards.  We didn’t think she would be so excited but she WAS and spent the next 30 minutes playing with them.

IMG_9820

She even got the whole family involved!  It looked like a Tiger Mom’s version of poker.

IMG_9821

We ordered a chocolate souffle for dessert and Janie helped sing “Happy Birthday”.  This is a busy birthday season for our family!

IMG_9824

Meanwhile, the waitress brought out a scoop of vanilla ice cream for our little diner.

IMG_9827

As you can see, she slurped the bowl clean.  This is one lucky girl…2 scoops of ice cream in one day!

Brunch

IMG_9773

We all walked to the Ferry Plaza for brunch today but Janie and Ankong did a little running.

IMG_9770

While we waited for a table, Janie scored a balloon flower.  Thanks, Ankong!!

IMG_9771

HAI-YA!

 IMG_9777

We brought yogurt for her and she gobbled it up and wore some of it too.

IMG_9774

IMG_9779

Afterward, we browsed one of Janie’s favorite stores, Sur La Table.

IMG_9780

I think it’s because there’s so much at her level and she gets to touch everything.  Luckily she’s really good about putting everything back.

IMG_9783

She then debated with Daddy and Ankong regarding which is better: a sailboat or a ferry boat?  Janie wanted neither.

IMG_9785

Before heading home for her nap, Janie got some vanilla soft serve.  She’s really making her own choices now: Vanilla or chocolate? The white one.  Cup or cone? Cone!

Back to SF

IMG_9646

This afternoon, we headed home on a plane.  At the airport, we had a little snack before boarding – Pinkberry!!

IMG_9651

She also played with Olaf (thanks Yai!) while Daddy finished his lunch.

IMG_9768

Janie loved watching the planes and vehicles outside.  There was so much to see!

IMG_9653

When it was time to board the plane, Janie led the pack and picked out her seat.

IMG_9673

This kid loves to ride airplanes.  Having a window seat is the best!!

IMG_9675

At SFO, we rode the shuttle over to the BART station.  We got a front-row view of the tracks.

IMG_9679

She was so good on the BART ride and got a little snack and milk too.
