Picnic

IMG_4125

We planned to have a picnic today but before that, we went to Chinatown for breakfast.  Janie had two helpings of jook today.

IMG_4129

Afterward, we walked to the nearby deli to pick up sandwiches for everyone.  Janie enjoyed the sunshine outside as we waited for our order.

IMG_4133

Our picnic was at Coyote Point in San Mateo.  We met up with Auntie Jia and Uncle Jason and had yummy sandwiches, fruit, and veggies.  The weather was perfect with sunshine and a nice breeze to keep us cool.

IMG_4136

Auntie Jia brought the cake she received from her co-workers at her baby shower yesterday.  Janie said “WOW!” when she saw it.  She also enjoyed eating it.

IMG_4139

Here’s a cute picture of Janie with one of her favorite people.

IMG_4140

After lunch, we stopped at Magic Mountain Playground around the corner.  The slides were too big for her but she didn’t care.  All she wanted to do was SWING!!

IMG_4143

This is the only slide that she was willing to try.

IMG_4145

Hooray for sunny days!!

Chipotle

IMG_4061

When we asked Janie what she wanted for dinner, she said “rice and beans and chicken”.  So, off to Chipotle we went for our Friday dinner outing!

https://youtu.be/qHUh_u1S9QU
This week, she’s learning how to eat with a fork and spoon the way Thai people do.  It’s close but she’s gonna need more practice.  When Yai saw the video, she said “good enough for now”.

IMG_4066

This kid cheesed it up for the camera and then proceeded to take photos of both Mommy and Daddy.

When we got home, she was a little cuckoo.  Shortly after this photo, she was in bed and lights out after a bedtime story with Dada.  Her hair looks so long in this photo!

Another Day Off

IMG_3765

Our car was still in the shop today and Mommy had more appointments so Janie had another fun day off.  The day started really early again with a ride on the train.

IMG_3766

She had her milk on the train and then her yogurt while we waited for the doctor to call us in.

IMG_3769

As a reward for being so good during the doctor’s visit, Mommy took Janie to the Creativity Museum.  She played with the foam dough and then headed for the Lego Station.

IMG_3770

She liked sticking the tiny Lego pieces on the wall one at a time.

IMG_3773

The square ones were much easier.

IMG_3776

She later went to the tegu block station and made a tall tower.

IMG_3778

IMG_3780

The best part of the museum is the carousel.  Janie chose the dragon car this time.

IMG_3781

This kid loves the carousel.  Good thing we get unlimited rides.

IMG_3793 1

After her nap, she had a tasty snack of pears and cheese while Mommy watched Glee.  She really likes the singing and dancing.

IMG_3800

While waiting for Daddy to come home from work, Janie did some cutting and coloring at her table.  She’s getting much better with holding her scissors the right way.

IMG_3805

We went out for dinner this evening and Janie had some pea soup.  The waitress brought her a little sample, which was plenty for her.  It was also on the house.  That was nice of her.

Tuesday with Mommy

IMG_3711

Mommy had a doctor’s appointment so Janie didn’t go to school.  Instead, she spent the day tagging along.  We were up early to catch the train to the hospital.

IMG_3712

IMG_3721

The ultrasound appointment was going to take at least an hour so Janie watched Finding Nemo on her iPad.

IMG_3726

After the appointment, we rode the train all the way down to the the mall to return some stuff and then walked down to the Ferry Building to buy some fruit.  One of Janie’s favorite stores is Sur La Table because of all the cool spoons and kitchen gadgets that she can see and touch.

IMG_3749

As a special treat, she got some chocolate and vanilla swirl soft serve in a cone.  That is pure joy in her face.

IMG_3745

Before heading home for a nap, Janie walked around to taste some fruit and practiced walking on the glass blocks.

IMG_3752

Daddy had to work late that evening, so we went out for Thai food.

IMG_3757

We ordered her favorite, Tom Kha Soup, and she gobbled up all the mushrooms, tofu, and cauliflower before slurping up the soup.

IMG_3756

She also had some of Mommy’s Pad Thai.  This is how she prefers to eat her noodles lately.

What a fun and productive no-school-no-work day!!

Heading Home

IMG_3475

Once we all checked out, the family gathered one last time at the bar.  Janie got some Dole whip and LOVED it…of course.

IMG_3480

The view from the bar was so nice.

IMG_3483

IMG_3504

We tried to get a family photo taken but Janie is in a phase where she doesn’t always want to take a photo.  So, this was the best we could get.

IMG_2607

IMG_2587

The cousins also gave each other hugs before heading to the airport.  They’re so funny together.

IMG_3533

The flight home was actually only 3.5 hours and Janie watched videos and grubbed on broccoli and carrots.  We got home pretty late and she was pretty tired by then but we all got home safe and sound.

one last time…

IMG_3413

Janie really didn’t want to say “goodbye” to her “Hawaii house” this morning and really wanted to go play in the sand one last time.  We had plenty of time before leaving for the airport so off we went with the shovel and bucket.

IMG_3424

This kid really made the most of her beach time and played in the water and sand without a care in the world.

IMG_3432

It was fun to watch how free and happy she was even if it was only for 30 minutes.

IMG_3446

IMG_3456

She ran, jumped, scooped, and splashed to her heart’s content.  She was no longer afraid of letting the waves wash up to her knees and we got some really nice shots of her at the beach this morning.

IMG_3466

IMG_3468

IMG_3469

When we checked out of the “Hawaii house”, Janie said “see you tomorrow!”  *sigh* We all wish it was tomorrow.

Breakfast!!

IMG_3141

We were all up early this morning and met up at the infinity pool.

IMG_3155

Then we all walked down to Eggs ‘n Things for a big pancake and waffle breakfast.

IMG_3152

There’s always a wait but the kids stayed entertained with each other.

IMG_3153  IMG_3159

This is Janie trying to make the “shaka” sign with Uncle Johnny.

IMG_3162

We brought crayons and Alice tried to join in.

IMG_3164

Auntie Joy also brought lots of stickers, which kept them occupied for a good part of the wait too.

IMG_3167

Once we were seated, the server had more crayons and a coloring page.  Janie and Daddy went to work on their individual coloring pages.

IMG_3174

Once the food came, Janie wanted to try all the different syrups and rolled up her pancake and called it a “pancake tortilla”.

IMG_3175

She also got over her fear of pineapples.  She had been avoiding pineapple ever since she ate an entire container of them, which made her tongue sting.  After today, she began saying “pineapples don’t hurt my tongue anymore”.

Auntie Yoon’s house

IMG_3104

For lunch, we went to Auntie Yoon’s house.  Janie slept through the first half of our visit  but woke up in time to eat and play for a bit.

IMG_3109

These two monkeys had a fun time climbing on the furniture and Alice was like Janie’s little shadow.

IMG_3111

IMG_2280

IMG_3107

It took a little time for her to warm up after waking up but she quickly snapped out of it once Auntie Yoon offered her some mandarin oranges.

IMG_2278

Too bad Baby Trevor was sleeping the whole time because she didn’t get to see much of him.  Oh well, maybe next time when he’s bigger.

IMG_3120

IMG_3118

For the rest of the afternoon, while we were back at the hotel, Janie kept saying “Auntie Yoon gave me mandarinas (mandarin oranges in Spanish)”.

Farmer’s Market

IMG_3084

This morning, we were all up early and Janie got some hammock time with Daddy before leaving for the day.

IMG_3071

We went to the Farmer’s Market at KCC for breakfast and Janie scored a free apple banana from the nice man at the Thai fruit stand.

IMG_3080

Then she got a bunch of longan fruit from Yai and did a good job eating around the seed in the middle.

IMG_3082

IMG_3077

Daddy also took her around to get some free samples of kettle corn.

IMG_3088

When she got tired, she sat in Alice’s stroller since Alice wasn’t using it anyway.

pool and beach

IMG_3029

This afternoon, we played in the pool for a bit.  Janie was too scared to go in the pool and was perfectly happy playing with her bucket and shovel.

IMG_3031

She sat next to Yai on the lounge chairs until she warmed up to the idea of sitting in the water.

IMG_3034

Eventually, she ventured down into the shallow part o the pool.  That was pretty much all she was willing to do today and it was good enough for us.

IMG_3037

IMG_3044

It was getting cold by the pool so we moved out to the beach where it was much warmer and not as windy.

IMG_3041

This kid was in heaven with her bucket and shovel. With the water, she made soup and meatballs.

IMG_3046

IMG_3048

She also made “cakes” on Mommy’s feet and legs.

IMG_3064

Daddy also bought everyone ice cream and we all enjoyed it on the beach.

IMG_2221

Janie had lots of sand on her hands but it didn’t slow her down one bit.
