Sunny Zoo Day

IMG_0091

We had a warm Sunday and it was perfect for going to the zoo.

IMG_0092

Peanut enjoyed watching the cars zoom by as we waited for our lunch at the cafe across from the zoo.

IMG_0096

We brought our lunch into the park and scored a table with an umbrella.

IMG_0100

IMG_0104

Peanut was very entertained by his water cup and he drank a whole bunch of water on this hot day.

IMG_0111

He also managed to turn himself around to straddle the highchair. Silly boy.

IMG_0115

Janie wanted to see the kangaroos today so that was where we went.

IMG_0120

She also insists on seeing the flamingos each time we visit the zoo.

IMG_0124

On our way home, we stopped at Costco to buy milk and chicken. It was nice place to cool off after a hot day outside.

Trip to the Farmers Market

IMG_1589

Janie wanted to go to the Farmers Market so that’s what we did today. We rode the trolley today!

IMG_0055

It was pretty warm outside so Peanut was happy to have a cold bottle of milk today.

IMG_0061

It was also warm enough to wear the new dress she got for her birthday from Auntie Janelle and Uncle Stan.

IMG_0059

IMG_0060

Both kids were pooped out by the time we got home and everyone (including Mama) got to take a nap this afternoon!!

Caputo

IMG_9793

This is easily becoming one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants. Janie saw the entrance and ran straight for it on her way home and said “let’s go eat black pasta!” We actually didn’t get it this evening. Instead, we had mushroom pizza and pasta with clams.

IMG_9796

Peanut got some tasty pizza crust and gnawed on it until he dropped it on the floor.

IMG_9799

Nom nom nom…

IMG_9812

IMG_9814

What a fun dinner!

IMG_9817

IMG_9803

It was also Opening Day for the Giants and the manager, Bruce Bochy, came in for dinner with his family. They sat right next to us and I got a cameo of him in the background of a photo I took of Peanut. He’s the older gentleman seated at the next table. Baseball is officially back in our neighborhood!

another birthday meal

IMG_9646

Ankong treated us to dinner this evening and ordered clams with black bean sauce for the birthday girl.

IMG_9654

Peanut also snacked on the long beans and lasted through dinner without any fussing.

IMG_9656

Auntie Terry gave her a princess castle and Auntie Janelle and Uncle Stan gave her a cute dress and a video.

IMG_9660

IMG_9666

The best part of the gifts was the tissue paper that came in the bag, which turned into an Elsa cape.

IMG_9674

It was cute seeing Janie and Auntie Jia together again. Toni also joined in on the fun and got some good giggles.

IMG_9672

We also got a decent (and rare) photo of our family of four. I love how the kids are holding hands.

Ferry Plaza

IMG_0678

This afternoon, Janie rode her scooter with Dada behind her on a skateboard. They went down to the Ferry Plaza to meet up with Rowan and Isla.

IMG_0679

They had ice cream and then played together.

IMG_0684

Mama and Peanut came a little later to join in on the fun.

Oakland Zoo

IMG_9029

We bought a Groupon to Oakland Zoo a while back and since everyone we know has a membership, it was the perfect time to meet up! Sophie, Avia, and Vivian joined us this morning for some fun and Janie was so excited to be there! She even wore her safari hat.

IMG_9033

DSC_7471

Janie rode the gondola for the first time with Dada and got to see lots of animals you can only view from above.

DSC_7482

IMG_9036

Little Guy got to meet the giraffes at the zoo today.

DSC_7487

And Peanut saw an elephant for the first time. Not sure if he could actually see him.

DSC_7490

DSC_7492

These two girls ran around together throughout the morning.

DSC_7485

It’s not Hawaii but the zoo is not bad too.

DSC_7496

We watched an elephant grab something to eat out of the tube hanging above. I think the kids and grown-ups were equally amused.

DSC_7488

Peanut was a little fussy today but his big sister came by to check up on him once in a while.

IMG_9047

At the children’s area, Peanut got to ride in the carrier for a bit and then posed with a tortoise statue before it started to rain.

IMG_9054

IMG_9060

The morning ended with a ride on the train.

IMG_9068

There was a nice view of the bay from there.

IMG_9069

They also had some carnival rides nearby and Janie was fired up to drive the car. Vivian also got to drive from the backseat. I love how every seat has a steering wheel.

https://youtu.be/HQrKLOcNFho
Not sure why she had such a mean scowl on her face during the ride.

IMG_9072

Looks like she’s tall enough to fly the plane!

DSC_7501

She flew all on her own and it’s funny to see that she still has the scowl that we all know and loved when she was a baby.

IMG_9074

What a fun morning at the zoo! We’re so happy that our friends could join us too!

locals

IMG_8886

One of our usual dinner spots is Public House located across the street and on the outside of AT&T Park. The servers all recognize us and are really accommodating to the kids. This evening, was no different and Dada got an extra-sweet smooch from his little girl.

IMG_8889

Meanwhile, Mama and Peanut got a selfie in too.

IMG_8890

I also wanted to take this photo to document this outfit that Janie picked out for herself today. This is what happens when you leave her to dress herself in the morning while Dada’s on a work call: dress, denim pants, vest, and slippas. Nice.

Ice Skating

IMG_8804

In the evening, we walked down to Heavenly Village to check out the ice rink. It began to snow on our walk over and Janie tried to taste it as it came down.

IMG_8806

The rink was going to be open one more hour so we decided to give it a try. The nice man also gave us a discount because there was only an hour left. That was plenty for us!  Here is Janie with her ice skates on!!

IMG_8807

She was determined to stay on her feet and held onto the wall whenever Mama needed to let go of her hand.

IMG_8809

She had a great time going around and around and didn’t fall much the first two laps around the rink.

IMG_8812

We took a little break and Janie insisted on going one more time. She looked pretty tired but we gave it a try anyway.

IMG_8814

This is where she ended up most of the last lap. Luckily, she was still in good spirits and each fall seemed like it was in slow motion. Her only complaint was that her hand was getting cold from holding onto the rail. Snow was falling pretty hard by then so she was pretty much plowing the snow on the rail with her bare hand.

IMG_8818

After her first time on the rink, we walked to the grocery store for some milk and snacks. She was so happy to be sitting in the cart. Poor girl must have been so tired from all the fun stuff she did in the snow today.  When we got back to the hotel, all she wanted to do was eat some pretzels and hummus (her dinner) and then go to bed.

Tahoe snow

IMG_8689

Last night at dinner, we made a last-minute decision to head up to Tahoe this morning. We found a great deal for a suite at a hotel right next to Heavenly in South Tahoe.  So we headed up early this morning and both kids did really well on the 3.5-hour drive.

https://youtu.be/JgUPDe3UQlc

IMG_8755

Here is Janie’s outfit that we pulled together using her beanie, a jacket and bib that we got from cousin Katie, and some cheap snow boots that Mama bought at the gas station on the way up.

DSC_7464

Peanut also had his own snow outfit complete with a jacket handed down from Rowan, pants that we borrowed from Avia, and socks that were handed down from Henry. Mama bought the hat at the same gas station on the way up.

IMG_8717

In town, there wasn’t much snow on the ground. It looked like Spring. So, we headed back up the mountain to find a sno-park that had some good snow for building a snowman.  This was Janie’s first time seeing and touching snow so it was really exciting for all of us.

IMG_8719

She had such a good time climbing, building, and playing in the snow.

DSC_7452

Of course, she wanted to build a snowman and got a little help from Dada. Too bad Mama forgot to bring a carrot for the nose.

DSC_7463

As a big fan of Frozen, this was like a dream come true for her.

IMG_8724

IMG_8716

Peanut also joined in on the fun. We made him a little snow seat and he touched and tried to eat the snow.

IMG_8732

IMG_8734

This is what it looked like when I made the kids pose together. Janie was grouchy because she had to stop playing for a few seconds and Peanut was sliding out of her arms. What a funny photo of them…and also a classic response from both of them.

IMG_8738

Once we got Dada included in the photo, Janie was happier because she didn’t have to hold up her brother and Peanut wasn’t falling over anymore.

IMG_8746

After playing in the snow, we stopped at a tacqueria on the way back to the hotel and Janie got a tasty bean and cheese burrito. She really worked up an appetite!

IMG_8750

Janie also posed for this photo and said, “Mama, take a picture of us!”

Sunday at the Aquarium

IMG_8491

Today we went to the Cal Academy and met up with Rowan and Isla.  We arrived first and hung out around the shark pool.

IMG_8492

Peanut sat on the window that his big sister used to be so scared of. He watched the sharks and rays swim below him with such delight.

IMG_8493

IMG_8497

IMG_8503

He also liked “standing” along the rails to see them swim by.

IMG_8505

At the craft table, Janie made a Mars rover.

IMG_8507

Here she is posing with her creation.

IMG_8527

She also took a photo of her rover (above) and a photo of Mama posing with her rover (below). She’s getting pretty good with the camera.

IMG_8514

IMG_8530

During our snack, Peanut got to sit on the grass and I realized it was his first time touching grass.

IMG_8533

He certainly didn’t mind it and seemed quite fascinated by it too.

IMG_8535

IMG_8537

Then we headed down to the aquarium where the kids had the most fun together.

IMG_8558

IMG_8561

They even posed for a photo together!

IMG_8565

Before heading home, we walked down to the ice cream truck for a treat.

IMG_8566

These kids had such a good time.

IMG_8570

IMG_8576

Peanut also woke up from his nap in time to enjoy the fresh air.
