calendar

Each morning during circle time, the Whales review the month, day, and year. They also talk about the “red days”, which are important dates like birthdays and such. Each day, she comes home to tell us what day it is today. For example, she said “Today is Wednesday, September 21st 2016! Tomorrow is the first day of Autumn!”

So, we busted out this wooden/magnetic calendar that we got from Auntie Marie a very long time ago and set it up. Janie LOVES having her very own calendar next to her bed. She knows the days of the week, which ones are weekdays, and which ones are weekends. She also knows that there are four seasons in the year. I guess she really is learning stuff at school…

tricycle ride

IMG_7703

Auntie Jia, Uncle Jason, Toni, and Thomas came over this afternoon.  We all took a walk around the stadium and caught some of the Spartan Race.

Janie rode her tricycle like a pro and had a lesson on following directions and traffic safety.  There was a lot of activity around the stadium and it was important for her to understand the rules.

She now understands that she needs to stay close to the family and that she is supposed to walk and hold a grown-up’s hand while crossing the street while another person carries her tryke across.

Tuesday night

This evening, Janie rode her scooter to dinner.  She had to go uphill for most of the way.

While waiting for dinner, Janie played with her flashcards and taught Dada colors, numbers, and animals in Spanish.

She loved her soup and “carrot noodles”.  This is how she was eating her long noodles today.

Hanging out

Janie was hanging out with Big GG this afternoon and it was so funny watching her talk to her and also recite what she’s learned about how dangerous cars can be.  This video has a lot of random phrases but it should give you an idea of how much she’s talking.

riding a giraffe

Today was museum day and the morning would not be complete without a carousel ride.  To make things even better, she rode on a giraffe instead of a horse today!

It’s so neat to see how she totally understands what Mirian says to her in Spanish. When she let go of one hand, Mirian said “agarrate bien”, which essentially means “hold on”.

Going to Work

It looks like my little girl is processing the whole mommy-going-to-work thing.  She has been crying most mornings but by Friday she’s able to just say “Bye Mama”.  This afternoon she pretended to be Mommy.  She even carried two bags (a purse and her lunch bag) and even gave me a kiss.

Animal Sounds

Janie knows lots of animal sounds now. We chuckle when she says her version of “monkey”. She calls them “badjoo”. It sounds nothing like “monkey” in English or Spanish. Regardless, she’s pretty consistent.

Counting

Janie has learned how to count to 10 in English, Spanish, Mandarin, and almost Thai.  She watches us count our fingers but I thought she was just imitating and just reciting the numbers.

I thought it was too soon to be doing this but she somehow understands a little bit about counting objects.

Here she is giving it a try in Spanish. Neato, right?!
