Walnut Creek

Today afterschool, Janie and Mommy drove to Walnut Creek to visit Auntie Mai and her new baby girl, Sabrina.  Janie was a little hesitant around the baby so we didn’t get any pictures of her with the newest member of the Cheeksters.

Instead, she did some coloring with Sophie at the coffee table.  They didn’t say much to each other at Auntie Mai’s house.

For dinner, we went to The Habit for burgers and that was when these two girls really hit it off.

It was so cute watching the two of them sitting at the table having conversations with each other.

Sophie: It’s hot. You have to blow it. (referring to the fries)
Janie: Yeah, I can’t eat it right now.

Janie was pretty good with sharing her fries and pineapple.  She also had a funny conversation with Auntie Ranee.

Auntie Ranee: Where’s Daddy right now?
Janie: He’s at home.
Auntie Ranee: What is he doing?
Janie: He’s reLAAAAxing.

We got a good laugh out of that one.

Before heading home, we stopped at Sprouts to pick up some carrots, bell peppers, and cookies.

Zoo with Friends

IMG_2401

This morning we met up with Rowan and Isla at the SF Zoo.

IMG_2403

They enjoyed the giraffes and penguins on our way to see the bears.

IMG_2406

Janie always looks forward to seeing the flamingos too.

IMG_2409

GG got a bird’s eye view of the action from on top of Janie’s head at one point.  So silly.

IMG_2411

At the playground, Janie climbed up the rope ladder all on her own.  Here’s a video:

The kids also went on the carousel before heading out. What a fun way to start the day!

Oakland evening

IMG_2185

Daddy was going to be home late so we stayed in Oakland and took a walk near Lake Merritt with Auntie Teresa and Baby Henry.  We had to stop to see the geese and ducks on our way to the playground.

IMG_2186

At the playground, Janie and Baby Henry loved the swings.

IMG_2187

IMG_2193

Janie also played on the slide and Baby Henry watched.

We got back to the car just as it got dark and then headed home in time for dinner.

Afternoon of Fun

The whole family spent the day at home today because both Mommy and Daddy were not feeling well.  Each of us (including Janie) took turns napping and by 4pm, we were all feeling well enough to go outside.

IMG_1850

Janie asked to go to the park so we decided to go to Yerba Buena Park for a ride on the carousel.  With our pass, Janie gets unlimited rides and she went on twice.

IMG_1854

The first time, she sat on the giraffe with Daddy and waved to everyone as she went around and around.  She also thought it was funny to have GG riding a giraffe.  In case you can’t see it, GG is sitting right in front of her on the seat.

IMG_1856

On the second ride, she rode on the sleigh with Mommy.

IMG_1858

IMG_1862

On our way home, we passed the playground where they have some really tall slides.

She went on the smaller one first and does this funny swinging thing before dropping herself onto the slide.

IMG_1860

Then she went on the medium slide by herself.

Next was the tallest slide.  Look how high up it is!!  I still remember the first time we brought her here.  She was barely able to sit up on her own.

Sophie’s birthday

DSC_5740

Janie went to another birthday party today.  This time it was in Walnut Creek at Heather Farm Park, which has a really cool playground. We got there a bit early to hang out with Vivian who was getting her picture taken for Christmas cards.

They played next to each other on the swings and Vivian followed Janie up the stairs and down the slides.

During the family photo shoot, Janie photobombed a photo by running into the background and waving.  She was so proud.  This is one of the outtakes.

Once again, there was pizza!  Boy, this kid got to eat well this weekend!

IMG_0826

Instead of cupcakes, Sophie had a big mountain of donuts!!  So, Janie got her first taste of chocolate donut with sprinkles.  Being the savory kid that she is, she ended up taking two nibbles and then calling it a day.

They had a pinata and Janie had no idea what she was supposed to do.  She just tapped the pinata three times and was done.  After all the kids got their turns, everyone pulled the strings on the bottom, which made all the candy come out.

IMG_0834

Janie scored a lollipop and was so happy.

Here is Janie and Sophie.  This is such as typical picture of the two of them together.

The rest of the party was spent playing on all the fun structures.  She really liked climbing on all the ladders and steps.

She also discovered the big grassy mounds that you can slide down with cardboard sleds.  She caught on quickly and had fun with her 2nd cousins Theo and Sadie.

“Buy some fruta.”

IMG_0418

One of Janie’s favorite things to do is to go outside to “buy some fruta (fruit)”.  Today, we bought some plums, meyer lemons, romanesco, and pears.  She also wanted these carrots but we have plenty at home right now.

We have gone so many times that she knows the routine and knows where things are now.  At one particular area, she asks for capers and onions because it’s where I usually get my favorite open-faced smoked salmon sandwich.

There’s also an area where musicians like to play.  She was very excited to get out of the stroller to watch the cellist play.  She also did a little dancing for everyone to watch as well.

IMG_0420

When we got to this area, she said, “I go to the park now. I want swings and the big slide.”  Then she ran off in the right direction.  Luckily, I was able to slow her down because we still had to wait for Dada to get his coffee.

IMG_0427

We finally took her to the park where she got a barrel full of laughs on the swing and went down the big slide all on her own.

IMG_0426

She also gave this climbing dome a try today but didn’t get very far.

On our way home, we passed the clock tower as it struck 12:00.  Before falling asleep, she said “that’s the clock to buy some fruta”.  Funny girl.  I guess we do come here a lot.

tricycle to the park

http://youtu.be/Ezi_Elvpqj4
Janie is strong enough to pedal the tricycle all the way to the park now.  She likes to sings and pretend to eat snacks while she’s riding.

http://youtu.be/lykxcrrFwh0
She also showed off how well she can climb the rope structure too.  Pretty soon this park will be way too easy for her.

IMG_0035 1

Apparently the sand pit and boat are still fun for her.

IMG_0037 1

We headed home as it was getting dark.

IMG_0038 1

She liked riding over the lights that surround the stadium.

World Series 2014

IMG_9168

The Giants made it to the World Series again – that’s a second time in Janie’s lifetime!  They just played two games in Kansas City and they returned to the neighborhood to play 3 more games.  This evening, Janie took a lap around the ballpark on her scooter to check out the action.

It was actually really crowded but we found little pockets of space to ride.

IMG_9172

Here she is at the O’Doul Gate.

AT&T Park

Here is a photo of her in 2012 with Koa.  Aw…

This is the Willie Mays Statue right out front.  We’d better head inside before it gets really crazy out here!

Friday shopping

IMG_8758

President Obama was in SF today so the commute back into the city tonight was horrible.  So, Janie and Mommy stayed in the East Bay for a little shopping while the traffic died down a bit.  We spent most of the time at IKEA where Janie had a fun time in the Children’s Area.

IMG_8759

IMG_8762

She also took the liberty of trying out all of the beds.

IMG_8763

She really liked the canopy bed. Too bad we don’t have room for such a thing.

IMG_8761

We were planning to purchase this $20 set of table and 2 chairs.  Janie thought it would be prudent to try it out first.

IMG_8765

For a snack/dinner, we shared Swedish meatballs, mashed potato, and lingonberry sauce.  Janie loves meatballs so it was perfect.

IMG_8766

She also appreciated the kid-level rail on the stairs.

IMG_8768

Before heading home, we also stopped at Target.  Luckily she was still in the mood for more shopping and enjoyed riding in the shopping cart.
