Long Beach to Oakland

IMG_4366

This afternoon, we headed home. We flew from Long Beach to Oakland and got to the airport early enough to have some dinner. The kids hung out as Mama and Dada purchased food and drinks for everyone.

IMG_4369

Peanut got some of Janie’s rice and beans. Yummy!

IMG_4372

On the plane, Peanut was fussy but eventually fell asleep.

IMG_4374

Meanwhile, Janie watched a movie and was pretty content in her seat.

IMG_4381

Once at Oakland Airport, Janie was happy to be free to move. This is her version of parkour in the terminal.

IMG_4382

On the drive home, it was too sunny on Janie’s side of the car so she hid under her hoodie for part of the ride.

New Playground

IMG_3135

With the ever-expanding neighborhood, it was about time we got more places for the kids to play. This brand-new park/playground opened today and we went to check it out.

IMG_3098

With a little help, Janie climbed this tower to get to the slide (on the right). It’s the only way up…no stairs!

IMG_3096

They also have this big cone that spins around.

IMG_3103

IMG_3100

There are several different swings. This disc one was cool.

IMG_3106

This guy was so happy to be on a swing too. We finally have one close to home for him!

IMG_3113

IMG_3120

This playground is pretty big and has equipment for kids big and small.

IMG_3127

It’s also close to the newest food park. Janie pointed out a giant dragon today on this food truck.

IMG_3128

For dessert, she got Thai coconut sticky rice and mango. Yai’s recipe is better!

11 months

IMG_3045

Getting a photo of this guy with a sticker on his belly is nearly impossible lately. He’s either moving or trying to pry the sticker off or both at the same time.

IMG_3051

It just goes to show how much a motor maniac he is lately. Crawling is his best mode of movement right now and he’s getting pretty fast – even on the hardwood floor.

IMG_3046

Of course, cruising furniture is second best and climbing has become a new thing for him too. Big sister got a little worried and insisted on spotting him today.

IMG_3047

Other highlights from this past month include:

  • Figuring out how to drop things into a container. This new skill often makes a fun drop-things-on-the-floor-and-mama-keeps-picking-it-up game for him too.
  • He’s also figured out how to pull snacks out of a snack catcher.
  • New foods this month: watermelon, cantaloupe, rice, PBJ sandwich pieces, spaghetti with sauce, onigirazu (rice ball with nori and salmon), oatmeal (yes, we were slow with this), scrambled egg, and a bunch of other random things at restaurants.
  • This guy is also a chatterbox. Lots of mamamama, dadadada, bababababa, nananana, and raspberries. He also plays around with the inflections and likes to imitate other sounds like smacking his lips, clicking his tongue, and making a wah-wah-wah sound with his hand on his mouth. He’s also become more consistent with saying mum-mum when he wants more food.
  • Self-feeding is super fun for him. He takes gobs of food and stuffs his mouth sometimes if we let him. He’ll also hold a cracker and take little bites off without losing the large piece in his hand. He goes through crackers like it’s going out of style. He also enjoys holding his bottle and drinking from his straw cup too. This boy can guzzle down water faster than any other baby I know.
  • This month, we celebrated his twin cousins’ 1st birthday. Can’t believe it’ll be his turn next month!
  • He got his first haircut (thanks Ta!) and went to the Creativity Museum for the first time with his new membership card. Mirian took him on the carousel and she said he had a great time.
  • Crawling on all fours, cruising, and walking with a push cart have been how he gets around lately. He JUST started climbing into his sister’s reading chair and I’m sure her bed is next. The other day, I saw him stand on his own for a split second but I don’t think he did it on purpose.
  • Sleeping hasn’t changed much – consistently down between 7 and 8, wakes at midnight, and sometimes at 4. Still an early bird but we’ve been able to get him to go back to sleep sometimes. Naps run from 9-10 and then 1-3.

Happy 11 months, Peanut!

Can’t bare to lose my baby boy but it’s been fun watching you grow and learn. Love you to pieces.

tricycle rides

IMG_7298

Dada was helping a friend move today so Mama flew solo with both kids today. We started the morning with a tricycle ride across the bridge to take in the view.

IMG_7301

IMG_7302

Peanut took a nap on the ride over to McCovey Cove and then woke up in time to see the water.

IMG_7322

For lunch, we stopped for a bean burrito. Janie managed to eat 3/4 of it on her own! She must have worked up quite an appetite.

IMG_7318

IMG_7319

Then it was back out on the tryke. She rode around the block once and then we headed across the bridge again.

IMG_7326

By then, people were arriving early to line up for the Metallica concert being held at AT&T Park.

IMG_7327

IMG_7340

IMG_7331

Janie loved the giant concrete baseballs at the park and asked “can we take it home?”

IMG_7333

Then we rode back across the bridge and saw the long line of fans on our way to the playground.

IMG_7335

It was such a nice day to be outside. Too bad we forgot to bring Jellybean Fred along with us.

rides, slides, and paint

IMG_7466

This morning, Janie went to Mama’s doctor visit and then we walked down to Yerba Buena Gardens to have a snack.  We sat by the waterfall while Janie had some blueberry bagel.

IMG_7467

After stopping at Target to pick up some paint for her clubhouse, we went to the museum to ride the carousel.  When I asked which one she wanted to ride, she immediately said “caballo!” IMG_7468

IMG_7470

IMG_7472

We got two rides with our ticket and she had a great time.

IMG_7475

We also went to the playground for some climbing and sliding.

IMG_7480

Janie climbed to the top of the big kid slide but was too scared to go down the actual slide.

IMG_7481

When we got home, she painted part of her clubhouse red, orange, and yellow.  Mama really appreciates washable paint.

Zoo Morning

DSC_6466

This morning, Janie asked if we could go to the zoo today.  With Daddy back now, it was the perfect outing for us.  We were all up early and got to the zoo right before it opened.  It was so nice and empty at that time.

DSC_6468

We saw the penguins eat and the monkeys play.  Janie also liked hanging like the monkeys.

DSC_6460

DSC_6472

All morning, Janie kept saying, “Let’s go find the peacocks.  I’m not scared of them anymore.”  She also posed as one again.

DSC_6470

Here are the baby and daddy giraffes too.

DSC_6474

Daddy also compared his wingspan with the bald eagle’s.

DSC_6476

Here’s the lazy polar bear lounging around.

IMG_6302

For some reason, she HAS to see the flamingos every time we come.

IMG_6304

She needs a little work on her imitation of them.

DSC_6486

The playground has a new area featuring a bunch of animal models. She was so happy to find a puffin.  She recognizes it from the front of her cereal box.

DSC_6487

There was plenty of sliding this morning.

DSC_6488

And we convinced her to try out the rope ladder today.  It wasn’t nearly as scary as she thought it would be.

DSC_6504

Here she is on the big kid slide.

DSC_6495

We’re also more comfortable with her on the big kid swing now too.

DSC_6490

DSC_6499

She still makes Mama a little nervous but she was able to hold on the whole time while Daddy gave her big pushes.

What a fun morning at the zoo!  Our membership expires at the end of this month and we really made the most of it.  We’re also happy to have Daddy back home!

Saturday Morning Fun

IMG_6246

This morning, we went to the Farmer’s Market and stopped at the playground before heading home.  The swing was her favorite part and there was pure joy in her face.
https://youtu.be/xp9VqW9ku0o

IMG_6253

IMG_6255

The slide was also fun and she just kept going up and down, up and down.
https://youtu.be/lg7ZDnYtB-M

IMG_6257

On our walk home,  balloon guy gave her a flower balloon.  It actually made it home without popping.

IMG_6262

For lunch Janie had chicken porridge that we brought home from Out the Door.
https://youtu.be/anV13oNpf-Y

She was also very silly during lunch.  It’s funny how this still makes her laugh.  She’s been doing this since she was a baby.

She was 18 months old in this video.

Better Day

IMG_4571

The morning started out well today.  Looks like she had eggs, sausage, and tomatoes.

IMG_4572

Daddy dressed her in a cute dress and they headed out to the zoo.

IMG_4574

What a fun morning!

IMG_4573

For lunch, she wanted noodles so they went to Namu for Japanese food again.

IMG_4575

She had some tempura veggies and asked Daddy, “Are you SURE this is broccoli?!”

Zoo

IMG_4453

We went to the zoo again this weekend and Janie just loves the flamingos.  She even tried to be one.

IMG_4455

The penguins were pretty funny today too.  One of them was swimming really fast and then doing jumps out of the water.

IMG_4458

The hippo statue is always a hit and today she said she was “driving”.

IMG_4460

Our almost-3-year-old was looking pretty sassy today with her hands on her hips.

IMG_4461

There were lots of flowers to pick this morning.

IMG_4462

At 11:30, we snagged a good spot at the grizzly bear pond.

IMG_4465

They threw live trout into the pond and the bears caught them right in front of us.

IMG_4472

Janie got a little scared when one of them got up on her hind legs and walked really close to the glass.

IMG_4475

Janie took a peacock picture today and I found  her first one from 10/6/13.  These pictures are 18 months apart.  What a difference!

20131006-155443

IMG_4478

For lunch, we had some pho and Janie gobbled it all up.

IMG_4480

Such enthusiasm in this little one!!

IMG_4483

IMG_4485

Our last stop before heading home was 99 Ranch Market.  She really liked seeing all the live seafood.

IMG_4489

On our way home, she passed out and slept for a good two hours when we got home.  It was a very exciting morning.
