barbeque

IMG_4261

Janie went to Auntie Jia and Uncle Jason’s house for a BBQ today.  Their street was closed for all the kids to play so Janie took full advantage and got to ride her scooter in the street.  Weeeeee!!

IMG_4262

Daddy and Uncle cooked up some yummy skewers on the balcony.

IMG_4270

Janie also got to play on Auntie’s chalkboard.

IMG_4275

This kid really knows how to party.

Burlingame

IMG_4116

This evening for dinner, we went to Burlingame to have dinner with Auntie Jia and Uncle Jason.  She was so happy to see them and had fun hanging out with them during dinner.

IMG_4119

This girl is drinking from a big cup now with less spilling.  We just have to make sure there isn’t too much in the cup to start.

IMG_4121

I love this picture.  She’s always so happy to be with Auntie Jia.

IMG_4127

After dinner, we stopped for ice cream.  She tried some of Daddy’s cherry ice cream.

IMG_4134

She also got her very own kid’s size rainbow sherbet.  She shared with Mommy and was so happy to be able to hold the cup and spoon herself at the end.

IMG_3984

This evening, Mommy and Daddy went out for a special dinner.

IMG_3985

So, Mirian stayed with her until 7 and they hung out at the library before coming home for dinner and a bath.

At 7, Auntie Jia came over to hang out.  Here is the picture they took together when she arrived.

Easter Eggs

IMG_2507

This afternoon, Janie dyed Easter eggs for the first time.  At first, she was puzzled by the white crayon that you draw on the white egg before they go in the dye.  She kept giving the crayon back to me as if it was not working.

IMG_2500

Once she saw the fruits of her labor, she was more excited.

IMG_2502

Her favorite part was dunking the eggs in the dye.  Surprisingly, she was really good about being gentle and we didn’t get any big spills or splashes.

IMG_2524

Here she is working on her next masterpiece.

IMG_2505

G-Auntie Jeanie and Auntie Jia also joined in on the fun.

IMG_2506

When the colored egg would come out, Janie tried to add more crayon wax to it.

IMG_2519

She loved all the bright colors and tried putting stickers on them.

IMG_2511

She actually just enjoyed playing with the stickers.

Happy Easter!!

Birthday Scooter

IMG_2400

For Janie’s 2nd birthday, we bought her a scooter.  It’s just like the one she fell in love with at Rowan and Isla’s house.  This morning she found it hiding in our bedroom and started rolling around on it in the bathroom.  So sneaky.

IMG_2407

She couldn’t wait to try it out so I let her roll up and down the hallway in her pjs and without shoes.

IMG_2463

Later when Auntie Jia and Great Auntie Jeanie came over, we took her down to the courtyard to play.  Luckily she didn’t mind wearing the helmet.

IMG_2464

She had a slow start but once we got her on the ramp, she was flying!

IMG_2492

She glided down the little hill and G-Auntie Jeanie guarded her from the front.

IMG_2493

Look at this kid in action!!

This was her first time down the ramp without help.

She looks like a pro already. Maybe Uncle Johnny can teach you how to do bunny hops.

Train to Burlingame

IMG_2117

This afternoon, we rode Caltrain down to Burlingame for dinner with Auntie and Uncle.  On our way down, we were joined by lots of Giants fans leaving the game that had just finished.  Luckily, we got to the station in time to board the train but there weren’t any seats.  So we stayed in the bike car and sat on the floor.

IMG_2125

Janie did a good job staying in one place and even got to stand up for a bit to look out the window.

IMG_2133

When we arrived, uncle and auntie were waiting for us and Janie was happy to see them.

IMG_2135

For dinner, we had pizza and Janie got some meatballs, pizza, and Daddy’s olives.

IMG_2168

When she was done eating, she made some pretend calls to Auntie Jia across the table.

IMG_2144

At the toy shop across the street, Janie played with a train set.

IMG_2146

She also said “hello” to a certain spotted friend there.

IMG_2150

We didn’t bring a stroller this evening and Janie did a good job holding a grown-up’s hand outside.

IMG_2154

She also liked having her hands in her pockets the whole time.

IMG_2158

Before heading back to the train station, we stopped for coffee and Janie read books with Uncle Jason.

IMG_2167

At the train station, Janie sat on the bench and waited patiently for the train to arrive.

IMG_2162

We had about 5 more minutes to spare so we got a quick family photo.

IMG_2163

Here comes the train!  It’s right on time!

IMG_2175

On the ride home, she fell asleep sitting between Mommy and Daddy on the train.

Sunday Fun

IMG_0818

On Sunday, Janie got to see Ankong and Ama.  They were in town for the day and it was filled with lots of fun and family time.

IMG_0801

The day started at a restaurant overlooking the ocean and beach.  Janie sat by the window with Ankong and had fun coloring before the food arrived.

IMG_0811

When it was time to eat, Janie got lots of bacon and avocado off of Ama’s salad.  It’s funny how similar they look in this photo.

IMG_0822

After lunch, she took them to the zoo, which was down the street.  She showed them where the giraffes and zebras live.

IMG_0824

We also tried out the backpack’s leash feature for a little while.

IMG_0823

It works well as long no one comes between the grown-up and the kid.

  IMG_0829

Kaylee got a close-up look at a monkey today.

IMG_0830

She also said “hello” to all the penguins.

IMG_0831

We took her to the playground before heading home.

IMG_0834

She has outgrown the 0-2 years section and moved up to the 2-5 years section.

IMG_0836

This turtle ride wasn’t much of a ride.  It doesn’t rock back and forth!  Bummer.

IMG_0840

On the way home, she took a pretty good nap.  When we got home, she tried to go back to sleep but there was too much excitement.  So, while some of the grown-ups took their own naps, she played with Ankong and Ama.

IMG_0843

For dinner, we went out for Chinese food.  She likes having Uncle Jason hold her.  Her preferred position is “the perch”.  Uncle got a good upper arm workout that evening.

IMG_0849

She ate lots and lots of tasty food this evening.  She really worked up an appetite today!  I think she managed to finish 2 bowls of soup today in addition to all the other stuff on the table.

Janie had a wonderful 9 hours with her grandparents today.  Also, thank you for the art set, Ama!!

late dinner

IMG_0489

We all went out for a relatively late dinner in Berkeley this evening to celebrate Auntie Jia’s birthday.  I love watching the two of them interact and Auntie is always a big help in keeping Janie entertained – especially during a 2-hour dinner like tonight’s.

Cheers! a video by beakatude on Flickr.

Here they are in action. Auntie really got her going on the giggles tonight.

Cheers, Auntie!!  Happy Birthday and Love you!!

Birthday Brunch

IMG_0327

It’s Auntie Joy’s birthday today so we took a walk down to a restaurant by the water to celebrate.  It was super sunny outside so Janie got to wear shorts and her sassy sunglasses.

IMG_0337

There was a bit of a wait so she had her milk on the deck with the girls.

IMG_0340

She made sure to “cheers” Auntie on her birthday.

IMG_2951

IMG_0343

Here she is decorating one of the menus.  Good thing it’s a daily menu because there was crayon all over it once she was finished with it.

IMG_0358

For lunch, she had fish and chips and actually liked the malt vinegar.  That’s Mommy’s little girl!

IMG_0353

She also got a hold of Mommy’s phone and took a pretty good picture of her family.  Not bad!!!

IMG_0366

When we got home, we had to say goodbye to Uncle Johnny, Auntie Joy, and Alice.  Janie gave her cousin a big kiss.  So sweet.
