Craft Project

This afternoon, Janie asked to do more cutting and gluing so I put together a craft project that I use a lot at work with my patients.  It involved cutting small pieces of paper, squeezing glue dots onto a picture, and then gluing the pieces of paper on the right parts of the picture.  I guess it’s called a mosaic.  Anyway, it’s a little tedious but for a beginner, it’s pretty entertaining.

Here is the final product and the proud artist was pretty happy about it.

Cut and Paste

IMG_6769

This afternoon, Janie worked on her cutting and she was able to cut on the straight lines that I drew!

After cutting out all the strips, she glued them all onto the paper on her own. Surprisingly, it wasn’t the mess that I thought it would make.

Picture and Pancakes for Dada

IMG_6422

This morning, Janie drew a picture for Dada.  She wanted the Hungry Caterpillar so Mama helped draw the caterpillar and Janie colored it in.  She also made the big leaf, brown cocoon, and sun.

She was so excited to show Dada what she made when he woke up.

Then she helped Mama make some pancakes.

She’s getting pretty good at mixing.

She was so happy to be able to eat the pancakes when they were done.

After breakfast, she also invited Dada over to the table for some dessert.

Later in the morning, she drew “Mommy” on her water mat.  Cute.

First Night in Mexico

IMG_1179

After we checked into the hotel, it was time for dinner.  We had Christmas dinner at the restaurant on site and Janie didn’t have much of an appetite by then.  She just wanted to drink lots and lots of milk.  So, she spent all of dinner drawing and coloring with Ankong.

IMG_1174

She drew a portrait of Ankong.  Those circles around the eyes are glasses.

IMG_1175

She also drew Ama.  Funny girl.

After dinner, we all hung out in our studio for a bit before everyone went to bed.

The pull-out bed was a perfect bed for her.  Good night!

pencil drawings

Yesterday, Janie kept asking for a pencil while we were at the mall.  When we got home, I handed her one of my golf pencils and this is what she drew.  Her scribbles are so much more detailed now.

I also showed her how to draw a snowman today and this is what she drew.

Rectangle!

IMG_0663

This evening, I found a square on Janie’s doodle mat.  When I asked who drew it, Janie said “I did!”  I wanted to see if for myself so I asked her to do it again.  It’s true.

She CAN draw and square – actually it turns out to be more of a rectangle but I was so impressed.  I usually spend months trying to teach the kids at work how to do that!!

Portraits

IMG_0264

While at brunch today, Janie was asked to draw a picture of Auntie Jia.  She studied Auntie’s face carefully and then drew this.

Next came Uncle Jason and this is what she drew.  She tried to draw the sunglasses too.

Drawings

IMG_0095

Janie did a little coloring and drawing this evening.

IMG_0100

She drew this first one all on her own.  It’s definitely looking more like a face.  By the way, those circles on the sides are ears.

Afterward, I thought maybe she could learn how to draw a person and this is what she drew.   She imitated the pieces one at a time and did a pretty good job!
