Watch us grow!

Caught Peanut climbing into Big Sister’s bed this morning.

This afternoon, Mama came home from work, showered, and got some snuggles from the kids.

Janie also got some help from Mama on one of her homework assignments on Google Classroom. She had to read an article and answer questions about what she read.

When I think the kids can’t stand each other, I see this. This is what love looks like in the days of COVID-19.

This is the new normal for us. No longer are we spending all day going from one activity to another. In fact, the kids have not been in the car much these past two weeks. Today, we cooked, we played games, and we cleaned. The kids love being home and not having to go to swim, kung fu, and soccer all day. Let’s see how much longer before they get bored.

A couple months ago, Janie very calmly asked Mama, “when will I get my own room?” We knew the day would come but didn’t know when it would be a good time to put them in their own rooms again. We often forget that they used to sleep in separate rooms when we first moved to Alameda but then they consolidated on their own. Today, Janie brought it up again and decided today would be the day. We had just received an email from Peanut’s school that they will be closing starting Monday. So, since they will be spending more time at home right now, this was a good time to make the change.

Since Janie’s desk and computer are already in Peanut’s old room/guest room, she moved her clothes and books into the room and we moved some of the toys that were in the closet into her old room, which will now be Peanut’s room. They both slept in their separate rooms tonight and did rather well. I think Mama’s is the most affected by this change. The kids are cool but Mama is sad to see them growing up and needing space. 🙁

Toni and Thomas had storytime with Janie again. This is a photo that Auntie Jia took from their house.
Today, Peanut said to Mama, “I’m ready to take the training wheels off!” So that’s what we did today and he took off like a baby bird ready to fly! I’m glad some good is still coming out of this very strange time in our life. Way to go, Peanut!!

Homeschooling and sheltering in place would not be as productive or stimulating without the technology that we have nowadays. Janie had a Room 33 Meeting with her classmates.
Then a 90-minute Mandarin lesson with her usual teacher at Yu Ying. Her teacher does a great job keeping everyone engaged, listening, and participating. This is money well-spent!

Janie later had storytime with Toni, Thomas, and Peanut. She read them 4 books!!
