Janie was going through the whole teething/growth spurt thing these past two weeks so her sleep schedule was a bit out of whack. I don’t think I did anything differently last night but she slept through the night for a total of 9 hours and 36 minutes according to my timer. Woohoo! I went to bed around 10 and woke up wide awake at 4:30 am thinking, “Is she still breathing?!” I finally got a good 6-hour uninterrupted chunk of sleep again. Does this look like the end of the 6-month growth spurt? We’ll see…
It’s about 1 am right now and Janie just fell back asleep 30 minutes ago. She’s been sleeping like a champ these past couple months but this week she’s seemed a bit fussier. Even Mirian reported that she’s been crying a little more during the day. Tonight she woke up starving at about midnight. She’s probably going through her 6-month growth spurt so I fed her and chalked it up to that. Then, it dawned on me to check her mouth. As soon as I placed my finger in her mouth, I felt a bottom tooth right in front! By golly, she’s teething too!!! Amazing! You can’t see them very well right now since they’re just surfacing so I didn’t take a photo but I sure will once they’re completely out! Wow, she’s actually handling this much better than I had expected. Looks like we’re just about ready for solids!!!
Today we took BART to Livermore to visit Auntie Stephanie. After an afternoon of wine tasting at the nearby vineyards, we hung out at her gigantic house.
Janie got to play on the carpet and in front of a closet mirror. It looked like she was pretty amused by her own reflection.
She also hung out on the squishy sofa with her toys while the grown-ups ate dinner and until she was ready to go to sleep.
On the ride back home, she slept so soundly and we practically had the whole train car to ourselves.
Janie made up her own dance this week. I first noticed it while I was changing her diaper. Then today I found her doing the dance as she was falling asleep.
Last night Janie fell asleep at around 8:45 in her bassinet on the couch. At 11 pm, we were about to give her her last bottle but was still sleeping so soundly. She’s been waking up at about 3:30 am every morning lately so we decided to let her sleep through her last feed. I went to bed around 11:30 pm and was pleasantly surprised to wake up to my alarm at 6:15 am this morning. Baby was still sleeping!!!! When I got up to check on her, she was wide awake and quietly talking to herself. She also hadn’t even kicked off her blanket! When I checked her sleep timer, it said 9 hours, 25 mins! She also didn’t cry for her 7 am feeding! Wow!
Since everything went so smoothly this morning, I was able to spend a little extra time with her on the couch and set herself up in the stroller with a toy before leaving for work.
Maybe leaving her with a nanny all day will help her sleep through the night. It seems like Mirian keeps her pretty busy all day.
When I got home from work this afternoon, it sounded like she had another good day. Mirian has been good about recording her feeds, naps, and diapers and it looks like Janie’s still on her usual schedule. Good baby. We’re going to try to replicate what we did yesterday and see if it works again tonight!
It was so much fun to watch the two little cheeksters “play” together. Janie is sitting just well enough to hold a toy and Sophie (almost exactly 4 months older) was showing off her mad sitting and rolling skillz.
As a therapist (and mommy), I loved seeing their two different ways of sitting side-by-side in their hoodies. Janie’s still using the kickstand approach while Sophie’s upright and hands-free.
They “shared” the toys that Sophie brought and had some Tummy Time together too.
Here’s a photo of them looking like they’re having a great conversation – maybe sharing stories about how they drive their parents crazy in the early mornings.
Sophie was so curious that she would get really close to Janie’s face to get a better look.
At one point, she leaned in and gave her a smooch and got a taste of Janie’s sweater too.
Janie looks like she was getting roughed up by Sophie but she was fine.
Afterward, they both went down for a nap in their strollers making it the perfect end to their first of many play days to come.
Tonight we had Uncle Victor and Auntie Susie over for dinner. Janie was such a good girl hanging out with us for a little while and then going to bed in time for us to have a nice dinner together.
