LAX-SFO

IMG_9687

This morning, we headed to LAX for our flight back to SF. In Yai’s car, there’s lots of room for the two car seats and Mama in the back.

We had lunch at the airport and the kids hung out together before it was time to board.

The plane wasn’t full so we scored a seat for Peanut. We buckled him in, tied up some toys to his lap belt, and gave him plenty of snacks to keep him occupied.

He also learned how to shake his head side to side.

Once we landed, we took the monorail to the BART station and hopped on.

Both kids fell asleep on this leg of our journey and Dada had to carry Janie onto the Muni train when we got to Embarcadero Station. This still beats driving up Interstate 5!!

Sick Day with Mama

Both kids had a fever and rash this morning so they had a sick day at home with Mama.  The rash was all over their trunks, arms, and legs. Janie also had some red dots on her face. We sent photos to the advice nurse and she said it was likely the end of a viral illness.

Janie quietly played with her Legos while Peanut took his morning nap.

When he woke up, he was in good spirits and hung out in the jumparoo for a bit.

Dada wanted to have lunch with us so we took the train to Union Square.

On our way to the restaurant, we stopped at the Disney Store and Janie picked out some new Frozen PJs and an Elsa shirt. She finally redeemed the gift card that Uncle Johnny gave her.

For lunch, we had Thai food and Janie had more of an appetite than we expected. She chowed on Pad Thai while the soup cooled. Peanut took a nap in the stroller while we ate.

When the soup was ready, she served herself a helping without spilling. She loves her Tom Kha Goong and even ordered it herself today!

Once we got home, everyone took a nap. Everyone was fever free by the end of the day!

brunch

IMG_8220

We went out for a late brunch today and Peanut sat in the stroller snacking on puffs while the family enjoyed a tasty meal.

IMG_8222

Janie got her very own plate of cornmeal pancakes with apple/berry compote and syrup (of course!)

IMG_8224

Peanut later snoozed off to dreamland during the latter half of the meal and Mama got to relax a bit.

parking garage

IMG_8156

Peanut was up all every hour last night and the only way I could calm him down was walking him in the stroller. At 1:00 am, I ended up walking him up and down the parking garage since I was in my PJs and it was a little scary outside at that hour.  Good thing we have 3 floors of parking because by the time we got to the 3rd floor, he fell asleep.

early bedtime

IMG_7893

Janie played all day and didn’t want to take a nap. This is what happened while we were watching the SF Chinese New Year Parade on tv this evening. It was only 6:30 pm and she was asleep for the rest of the night.

visit to the doctor

IMG_7478

This morning, I got a text from Dada that Janie was looking not well this morning when he dropped her off at school. She had been coughing all week, had a goopy eye, and complained of pain in her right ear last night. So, I called the advice nurse from work and they got us an 11:45 appointment. I had to leave work early, pick up Janie from school, and take her.

All the symptoms pointed to the common bug that’s been going around. In fact, there was a kid who officially had pink eye this week too.  No wonder! So, the doc prescribed antibiotics for her and also suggested some Zyrtec for her coughing/congestion. Janie was most excited about the lollipop at the end. She even had a real conversation with her doctor for the first time. Before today, she had never spoken a word to her.

On our way home, we stopped at Safeway to fill her prescription. We also had some extra time to kill before sending Mirian home for the day so we drove to Target. Janie fell asleep on the way over so we ended up sitting in the Target parking lot for 45 minutes for nap time.

Parent-Teacher Conference

IMG_6827

This afternoon, Mama and Dada attended Janie’s Parent-Teacher Conference.  We arrived just as the kids were waking from their naps.  That’s Janie in the middle (on her tummy) looking up at us.  She was very excited to see us in the middle of the afternoon.

IMG_6874When it was time for the conference, Mama and Dada sat in a quiet room with her teacher, Denise, to discuss how she has been doing so far in class.  She printed out a list of things she has said in their weekly “Talking Stick Meetings”.  It’s always on Mondays so the kids usually share what they did over the weekend.  She likes to use the word “just” in her statements.

Here is a sample of her math activity.  She did a pretty good job.  We also got a few chuckles out of her teacher’s comments about her.  It’s funny to hear that she has qualities similar to both Mama and Dada.  Some highlights of the meeting:

  • She follows directions and reminds others of what they need to be doing.
  • During free choice, she chooses stations based on her interest in the activity and not necessarily based on who is playing in that station.  However, once she’s there she will play and talk to whoever is there with her.
  • She is flexible and willing to sit in different places around the table during snack and lunch time.  If someone is unwilling to move, she will volunteer to sit in any open seat.
  • She has good manners and always says “thank you”.
  • She likes the art table, the writing station, and playing with the magnatiles the most.
  • When she decides that she doesn’t want to do something, she will say “no thanks” and stick to her decision.  Her teachers know that they cannot convince her otherwise.
  • One area that she has improved on the most is socialization.  She started out very quiet and observant but now she joins groups and plays with everyone.  She also enjoys playing with boys and girls equally.  However, she doesn’t like to join “rowdy” groups that are too loud or chaotic.

After the conference, Dada went back to work and Mama stayed behind to let her enjoy a birthday celebration for one of her classmates before getting a ride home in the car with Mama.

We are so proud of how much our little girl has grown these past 4 months at preschool.  It’s good to know that it’s money well spent.
