Watch us grow!

Janie sent this photo to Mama today on her way home from school with Dada.

There was a big celebration of Valentine’s Day at school today. The kids exchanged valentines (we gave DumDums and pencils) and the kids had a special presentation to the parents at the end of the day. Luckily Mama was home today so she was able to watch too.

All the kids had worked hard over the past two weeks practicing some love songs, making ukuleles, cutting out hearts, and making necklaces for each of their parents.

They all performed for us this afternoon, strumming their ukuleles and singing 4 songs.

Then they handed out their gifts for us. We didn’t even know Janie could cut out a heart already! What a nice job she did. The ukuleles also had rubberbands that made noise when you pluck them. Very clever.

Before we left school, all the kids decorated their own cookies and ate them (of course).

To celebrate what a good job she did, we took her to SuperDuper and she ate about 75% of this burger!

We took the train home after dinner and then Janie played her ukulele some more.

She also insisted that we both wear our leis this evening before bed and snapped a photo.

Janie’s class is called the Alligator Class and their mascot is Jellybean Fred (JBF). Each kid in the class gets to take him home over the weekend and it was Janie’s turn this week. He also comes home with a diary and he adds photos and captions to the book. This evening, it was Janie’s took him home and she was so excited. He rode the train home with her.

Janie got home and thought his snout and tail needed a bandage.

Where will we take him this weekend?!

This afternoon, Mama and Dada attended Janie’s Parent-Teacher Conference. We arrived just as the kids were waking from their naps. That’s Janie in the middle (on her tummy) looking up at us. She was very excited to see us in the middle of the afternoon.
When it was time for the conference, Mama and Dada sat in a quiet room with her teacher, Denise, to discuss how she has been doing so far in class. She printed out a list of things she has said in their weekly “Talking Stick Meetings”. It’s always on Mondays so the kids usually share what they did over the weekend. She likes to use the word “just” in her statements.

Here is a sample of her math activity. She did a pretty good job. We also got a few chuckles out of her teacher’s comments about her. It’s funny to hear that she has qualities similar to both Mama and Dada. Some highlights of the meeting:

After the conference, Dada went back to work and Mama stayed behind to let her enjoy a birthday celebration for one of her classmates before getting a ride home in the car with Mama.
We are so proud of how much our little girl has grown these past 4 months at preschool. It’s good to know that it’s money well spent.

This morning, Janie asked to walk to school. It was raining and she really wanted to step in some puddles. At one point it started to really come down but that just got her even more excited.

She managed to walk the whole way and had a lot of fun.

Peanut was snuggled safely inside the stroller with the cover and then later went out for lunch with Mama and Dada.

Dada took this photo and sent it to Mama with the message “Not sure why I rush to pick her up.” Nowadays, she tells us “I’m not ready to go yet” when we pick her up.

This morning, Janie waved to the train passing by at our stop.

She also tried out her new rain jacket with her boots. Too bad it stopped raining by the time we went to school. No worries, there’s rain in the forecast for the next 10 days!!

This morning, Dada made a special visit to Janie’s school. He was signed up to read to the class today. When he arrived, she was so happy and told everyone “this is my Dad!”

Mama made it over to the school just in time to watch. Dada read “Dragons Love Tacos” and the class seemed to enjoy it.

He even got a big “WHOA!” at the end of the story. Very cute. Janie was so happy and proud to sit next to him (as the kids usually do when a parent comes to read).

After the book, all the kids sat down for lunch and Dada brought lunch from Chipotle for Janie.

They sat together and ate before Dada had to go back to work. What a special treat!

Janie was playing with the magnetic balls today during free choice this afternoon.

More words of wisdom from school…

We like her goal very much.
