Janie has been working in her math/numbers book and it’s amazing how quickly she learned how to write them.

In this exercise, she had to count the dots and write the number underneath.

We had Janie’s end-of-the-year Parent-Teacher Conference today. Miss Denise had lots of nice things to say and that Janie was ready to move on to the Whale Class. In fact, we got notice that she is slated to start August 1st!

After the conference, we went to Waterbar for a snack.

As we waited for our server, Janie perused the wine list and Mama taught her how to use a Table of Contents. We played a game where she would find the page that a certain “chapter” started. She was also able to read the words “beer” and “red”. She was very excited about that. All the other words were a too complicated (i.e. sauvignon blanc).

The oysters were yummy today!

Meanwhile, Peanut snacked on melon that Mama brought. Janie took this photo.

In addition to what we orderd, she also finished off a pack of gummies that she opened after school. She thought ti was hilarious that her tongue was blue.

Happy Friday, Everyone!!

This outfit came from Thailand and she looks especially cute in it with the shoes…and antennae?

Mama picked up Janie today and found her making tracks with Magna-Tiles for the trains. She’s been into trains lately and now I see why.

Her teacher also sent home a collection of pictures that she has drawn over the school year with her words dictated by her teacher. Most of them are based on a series of Jack and Annie books. Is it a coincidence that she drew Annie with slanted eyes in this picture?!

This one was my favorite (and the most recent). That figure on the right in orange-yellow is Little Guy. The dots are her spots, the two lines are her legs, and the squiggles are her body/mane. Her drawing of a person still doesn’t have a body but she’s added fingers and toes. Interesting.

This is one of the picturees that was posted in today’s school newsletter. Love how Janie is the only girl in her group nowadays. This is “Coach” and the kids doing their end-of-the-session “SOCCER SHOTS!”

We are amazed at how she can read short words with greater speed lately. She should be ready for Pre-K in the fall in no time!

This afternoon, Mama had to get off work early to go home to get Peanut and then walk to Janie’s new school for the fall. This morning, Janie told Dada that she was excited to see the Whale class.

Her classroom is on the top floor that brick building, which is right across from Dada’s office. The playground is on the roof (covered by the canopy above).

In the classroom, the parents gathered around the director to hear more about the program while Janie read books with some of the current students. They have some of her favorite books!

Here is the classroom. They are a Pre-Kindergarten class with all 4-year-olds. She will start sometime this August or September. She has at least 5 current classmates who will transition with her.

This evening, Janie couldn’t wait to start homework. She’s getting pretty good at reading short words.

We also did some of the math homework and it transitioned from following a path to actual connect-the-dot pages.

Last Friday, we picked up a new workbook at Barnes and Noble. It was a math book for kids ages 3-5. It starts out with counting to 10 while connecting dots. She had so much fun that she got mad when we stopped after doing 4 pages. I hope this enthusiasm continues.
