Lunch and Naptime

IMG_2017

Just before Janie’s nap, we went out for lunch.  While we waited for the food, Janie read her counting book with Yai.

IMG_2019

She was also playing “teacher” with all of us and taught us our numbers 1-10.

IMG_2023

I caught this photo of her eating and reading at the same time.  Reminds me of stories I had heard of Daddy as a kid always reading and not wanting to eat.

IMG_2025

Once we got home, we had a grouchy little girl who was in need of  nap.  Daddy read a few books to her and then it was lights out minutes later.

33 months

IMG_1969

Janie turned 33 months old today and she’s just 3 months away from turning 3.  Crazy.  This was the only photo I could get of her with Ducky.  You would like she would get more cooperative as she gets older but that’s not the case.

This month has been filled with language, funny sayings, and lots of holiday fun.  Here’s a recap:

  1. Language: “I don’t like ___.” “Just a little bit” “NO NO NO NEVER!” “Do you like this song?” “It’s not Christmas anymore.” “I’m not a baby.  I’m a big girl.”  “I’m not a bear.  I’m a monkey.”
  2. This month’s songs and books: Muffin Man, Slippery Fish, Press Here, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, “Buenos Dias”
  3. Travel: Janie flew to Puerto Vallarta and used her passport for the first time. She loved playing in the pool and in the sand.
  4. Disneyland: This was the best year yet because she recognized characters and enjoyed most of the rides.
  5. Christmas: Janie got a bunch of presents and had a good time unwrapping them all.
  6. Favorites: straws, tea party and “swimming” in the bathtub, playing in the pool, “painting” in her new book.
  7. Fine Motor: Janie learned how to use scissors and loved it.
  8. New foods: almonds, dried cranberries, and raisins. These were her “special treats” for the plane ride to Mexico.
  9. Gross Motor: Janie likes slides and braved some really tall tube slides this month.  She’s also getting much more comfortable in the pool and will walk around in the shallow areas with the water up to her chin.
  10. Chores: putting her dirty clothes in the hamper, putting her shoes away, folding dish towels, feeding the fish with Daddy, watering the plants, putting toys and clean clothes away.

What a fun and eventful month!  Happy 33 Months, Big Girl!

Little Farm

DSC_6121

We took Janie to The Little Farm at Tilden Park today and she was so excited to “go to the farm”.  When we arrived, the first animals she saw were the cows in the barn.  She (and we) were surprised to see how big these animals are.  We brought celery to feed the animals and they were all over it.

DSC_6101

The cows have these really massive tongues that extend as far as my forearm and it’s kinda scary when they come up to take the celery from your hand.  Janie was too scared to hand it to them herself so we ended up doing most of the feeding.

DSC_6110

This was the one and only time that she actually fed the cow.

The next animal was a huge pig.  We didn’t bring any lettuce so we just admired her from afar.

DSC_6106

Janie was so happy to see the chickens and ducks.  This is the outside of the coop.

DSC_6108

Inside the coop, she got an even closer look.

DSC_6118

There were sheep up on the hill but none of them seemed that interested in snacking at the moment.  It’s ok though because Janie said “I’m scared of the sheep”.

Janie tried again but then dropped the celery when the cow’s tongue was a little too scary for her.  You can hear her say “big tongue” at the beginning of the video clip.

DSC_6124

There was lots of space to run and explore at this park and Janie took full advantage.

DSC_6125

For lunch, we found a place to sit and have a picnic.

DSC_6127

We were lucky that the sun was out and it wasn’t too cold.

IMG_1895

Janie enjoyed her own stash of celery plus tuna salad, crackers, and lots of pickles.

IMG_1892

Before heading home, we went back to the cows to give them the rest of our celery.

DSC_6130

Janie was still too scared but was willing to get a little closer this time.

DSC_6117

What a fun day at the farm!!  Next time we’ll have to bring more celery and add lettuce too!

IMG_1837

This evening was all about building with Legos.

Here’s a video (it’s pretty long) of her building and it also shows how talkative she is when she gets home from school.

She also changed Big GG’s diaper and put him to bed.

To the zoo!

IMG_1748

We talked about going to the zoo last night and Janie wouldn’t stop talking about all the things she would see there today.  When we got there, she wanted to see the Mama Giraffe and Baby Giraffe.

IMG_1779

She also helped GG get a closer look.

IMG_1751

Next was the penguins.

http://youtu.be/y1e3WoC2AvU
She said they’re “taking a shower”.

IMG_1753

She was really looking forward to seeing the tiger and he was out and about.

IMG_1759

Then she heard the train from afar, gasped, and said “that’s my train!”  So that’s where we went next.

IMG_1763

We sat in the front today.  She had a lot of fun but was a little scared of the steam in her face.  By the end, she was saying “it’s steam, just water”.

IMG_1767

For lunch, we had a picnic at the playground.  She was waiting patiently for her bread and cheese.IMG_1768

IMG_1769

After lunch, she did some “relaxing” on Daddy before wandering off to the playground.

She went down the big tube slide today like a pro.  Then Daddy followed.

Lunch and a Lizard

IMG_1530

This morning, we went to Sports Basement to pick up some bike supplies for Daddy.

IMG_1531

She thought all these test helmets belonged to Daddy.

IMG_1533

Afterward, we had lunch before heading to Costco.  Janie had some rice and chicken tikka masala.

IMG_1534

At Costco, she enjoyed all the samples they had – especially the tortilla chips with hummus.

IMG_1538

Our last stop was PetSmart.  While Daddy looked for shrimp for the fish tank, Janie went to see the turtles.

IMG_1539

IMG_1541

She also fell in love with this green lizard.

Spaghetti

http://youtu.be/yIEI4qevx98
We had spaghetti the other night and realized we had never taught her the word “spaghetti”.  We always called it “pasta” or “noodles”.  When she gave it a try, it was pretty funny.  The next day, I heard her practicing it while she was playing with her toys.  I’m guessing “pasgetti” is normal for this age??

New Year’s Eve 2014

IMG_1460 1

On our first day back at home, it was also New Year’s Eve.  We spent the morning just unpacking and putting things away.  Janie also opened her doctor kit and had to introduce the new members of the GG club to the rest of the gang.

IMG_1456 1

She also thought it would be a good idea to get everyone caught up on their vaccinations.

IMG_1458 1

It is cold and flu season after all!

IMG_1469

For lunch, we went to the mall and rode a very crowded muni train back.

IMG_1473

We celebrated EST New Year with Uncle Johnny, Alice, and Auntie Joy.  They all looked ready for by at 9pm.

Here she is saying “Happy New Year” to everyone.

This is a funny outtake.

Janie also enjoyed some lemon sorbet as a special holiday treat.

IMG_1481

Later that evening, we bundled up and walked down to the Bay Bridge where they would have fireworks at midnight.  Janie pulled the beanie over her eyes and just went to sleep.  She missed the whole show and slept well.

This is what she missed.  Happy New 2015!!
