homework

Every evening (Sunday through Thursday) before bed, Janie does a lesson in her reading/writing book. She’s been doing this for about two weeks and she’s getting the hang of sounding out letters, putting them together, and also rhyming. Unfortunately, she also has a very good visual memory so she tries to cheat sometimes or gets ahead of herself. We are lucky that she finds this fun and that the lessons are short (~12 minutes each night). Dada usually does the reading lesson and Mama does the writing lesson. With Dada gone, Mama has to work on both parts.

Each lesson also ends with writing 2-3 sounds/letters. Tonight, she practiced s and d. For lots of the letters, the Handwriting Without Tears method works like a charm.

This afternoon, Dada had a 5pm meeting so Mama picked Janie up from school.  She was in the middle of playing with Sota when she arrived.

She also wanted to bring home her artwork.  She goes through a lot of paper in a month!

She also had some new Words of Wisdom posted on the wall. This month, it was titled “Earth Day 2016”. The question was “what do you love about our planet and what can you do to protect her?”

Her answer was “I love giraffes, so I don’t waste water. The giraffes need to drink.”

Happy Monday!

IMG_8891

It’s Monday and Peanut was in a particularly good mood today. Mimi reported he was a good boy today.

IMG_1162

He was also a good boy this evening while Mama had to do some grocery shopping.

Dada came home with Janie and prepared a huge steak for us all to share. Peanut even got some little pieces.

After dinner, Daddy and Janie did the first of 100 reading lessons in a book that Uncle Jimmy recommended.

Before bed, she gave check-ups to her furry pals and even brushed Go-Go’s teeth.

Happy Monday!

Peanut is 34 weeks old today! This morning when I put him down next to Ducky, it was like he knew what he was supposed to do. He put his hand on Ducky and smiled. No lie. He posed for the picture today!

Highlights of this past week:

  • He had a fever and then some weird rash too. He’s feeling better now but the rash is sticking around a bit longer. Luckily it hasn’t been itchy for him.
  • Peanut cut his first tooth this week! It’s a front lower and then the other one came quickly after.
  • New foods: brocolli florets, NY strip steak.
  • Sounds: bwa, ba, da, wa, ma

Happy 34 weeks, happy boy!

stories

IMG_8884

Part of our bedtime routine is to read stories before going to sleep. One of Janie’s favorite books right now is “Are You My Mother?” I love watching her recite her favorite books. She’s also learning the sounds of all the letter of the alphabet in school so when we read to her, she always wants to know where we are reading.  She makes me point to the words on the page with my finger while I read to her. Otherwise she’ll interrupt and ask “where are you?”

Here she is “reading” her book.

rainy day

IMG_8461

It rained pretty hard today and Janie took full advantage of it while we were at the cafe. There were puddles everywhere!

This was also the perfect opportunity to pretend to be Elsa. I guess this is the closest she’s gotten to snow. How sad.

Love

IMG_8253

Mama dropped Janie off at school this morning and saw the new Words of Wisdom posted.  This month’s question was “What is love?”

IMG_8254

Janie said “Love is when your baby laughs and smiles at you.”  So sweet.
