Monday morning

IMG_5331

On Monday morning, Janie was up earlier than usual and actually walked into the house herself and sat down at the breakfast table when we arrived at school.

IMG_5333

She usually wants to be carried in and asks to sit on a certain chair in the livingroom to warm up.  But today, she was able to sit and start her breakfast with her friends right away.

Skipped Nap

IMG_5266

While lunch was being prepared, Janie drew some banana slugs.

IMG_5267

Auntie Vyl prepared some yummy noodles with veggies, chicken, and peanut sauce.

IMG_5273

Then, instead of taking a nap, Janie ran laps around the campground with Rowan and Auntie Vyl.

IMG_5259

IMG_5261

We also built a fire and Janie played with her painting notebook while Jack and Reese watched.

IMG_5275

She also learned how to roll dice during a game of “Pass the Pig”.  Actually, she was rolling pigs but she got the idea.

IMG_5274

Everyone snacked on fruit, cucumbers, salami, and cheese before dinner.

IMG_5276

We also had some early marshmallows and Janie was so happy.

IMG_5284

She roasted one next to Daddy but it went up in flames before she could eat it.

IMG_5295

Before dinner, Janie and Mommy did some relaxing in the tent.  No napping took place at that point either.

IMG_5303

Later, we all went out for Mexican food nearby since we didn’t have anything food prepared for that evening’s meal.  As expected, Janie passed out in the car on the way back to the campsite and slept for the rest of the night.  I guess that’s what happens when you skip your nap.

Walnut Creek

Today afterschool, Janie and Mommy drove to Walnut Creek to visit Auntie Mai and her new baby girl, Sabrina.  Janie was a little hesitant around the baby so we didn’t get any pictures of her with the newest member of the Cheeksters.

IMG_4196

IMG_4199

Instead, she did some coloring with Sophie at the coffee table.  They didn’t say much to each other at Auntie Mai’s house.

IMG_4205

For dinner, we went to The Habit for burgers and that was when these two girls really hit it off.

IMG_4201

IMG_4203

It was so cute watching the two of them sitting at the table having conversations with each other.

Sophie: It’s hot. You have to blow it. (referring to the fries)
Janie: Yeah, I can’t eat it right now.

Janie was pretty good with sharing her fries and pineapple.  She also had a funny conversation with Auntie Ranee.

Auntie Ranee: Where’s Daddy right now?
Janie: He’s at home.
Auntie Ranee: What is he doing?
Janie: He’s reLAAAAxing.

We got a good laugh out of that one.

IMG_4204

Before heading home, we stopped at Sprouts to pick up some carrots, bell peppers, and cookies.

34 months

IMG_2493

Look who’s 34 months old!  When people ask her “how old are you?” she answers, “almost 3”.  I guess she’s been paying attention when strangers ask us.

Here are some highlights from this past month:

  1. Gross Motor: Janie is walking up and down the stairs with one foot on each step (like us grown-ups), which makes her faster and catching the train much easier nowadays.
  2. Self-care: Toilet training is going well and she is now able to use the toilet at home all by herself, including wiping and flushing.  She just needs a stool to get up onto the toilet.  She also doesn’t use the kiddy toilet cover sometimes.  She’s also washing her hands on her own now too but sometimes gets carried away with the soap and water.  She has no idea that we’re in a drought.  She has also gotten better with cutting soft food with a knife and fork.  Lastly, she’s getting much faster at putting on her Chucks and flats that have a criss-cross Velcro strap.
  3. Social/Language: Janie’s playing with friends and having conversations with them now.  It’s fun to see her doing more than parallel play or imitating what her friend is doing  In fact, the last time she saw Sophie, they played chase/tag and pointed out things they saw together.
  4. Language: This month has been fun because she’s having real conversations with us.  Some of what she says is very surprising and makes us laugh all the time.  She comments on things she sees from the car window and also recalls her day at school with a lot more detail and accuracy too.  When Yai calls her on FaceTime, she has real conversations with her too.
  5. Spanish: We’re hearing a lot more Spanish from her at home.  She knows her numbers to 20 and has learned the days of the week.  Her vocabulary for animals, foods, and objects has really expanded too.
  6. Fine Motor: Janie is coloring with a little more purpose this month and trying to match colors to things that she sees in her coloring book (i.e. orange for the carrot).  She has also discovered the joys of playdough.
  7. Favorites this month: Playdough, feeding the fish, watering the plants, Chip and Dale cartoons, Finding Nemo, pretzels, nuts, cheese, and still any fruit.
  8. Baby Brother: Her understanding of her new brother is limited to “baby in Mommy’s tummy”.  She still has no idea how life-shattering it will be for her.
  9. School: We don’t have anymore tears when we go to school and she seems to look forward to it now.
  10. Stats: 3T/4T shirts, 3T pants, Size 7 shoes, Size 5 Pull-ups.  Haven’t weighed her or measured her height lately but she is certainly growing taller.
  11. Visitors: Yai came up to SF for a week.  What fun!

Fun with Sophie

IMG_2242

sitting

These two girls have known each other since they were little babies and they are finally playing and having conversations together.

IMG_2230

IMG_2236

We met up at the Ferry Plaza this morning and they had a fun time exploring, walking, and eating together.

IMG_2237

It was funny watching them talk to each other.  Janie would point out something and tell Sophie “that’s a seagull”.  Then Sophie would point to something else and say “It’s an airplane!” That went back and forth for a few minutes.

IMG_2238

They also played chase and tag – similar to what they did at the Holiday Party last weekend.

IMG_2244

They tried sharing a chair but I think they need a little lesson on what sharing actually is.  It looked more like a scooting match.

IMG_2247

We had a special treat before heading home and picked up some ice cream – POG and coconut sorbet, actually.  Mommy was in a pre-Hawaii mood.  🙂

IMG_2250

Here is her mini scoop on a cone.  She was so excited.

IMG_2286

Actually, both girls were so happy to have ice cream.

Lake Merritt

IMG_9740

This evening, Janie went to a work celebration at Lake Chalet, which is located right on Lake Merritt in Oakland.  On our way over to the restaurant, Janie said “see the water” so we went down to see the lake as the sun was setting.  She loved pointing out the birds that were flying by across the water.

IMG_9744

“CHEEEEEEESE!”

IMG_9746

At the restaurant, Janie and Baby Henry were reunited again and they had a fun time hanging out together.  Henry was a little grabby but Janie knows it’s only because he likes her so much.

IMG_9753

Janie shared her Hawaiian bread with her pal Henry and then some to Vivian when she arrived a little later.

IMG_9756

IMG_9758

Vivian shared some of her blueberries too.  Boy oh boy…I’m sure some tasty daycare germs were exchanged tonight as well.

IMG_9760 1

Next to us was an ATM machine, which the kids took turns pushing the buttons.

IMG_9761 1

Here’s a picture of the lake and the “circle moon”, according to Little Janie.

Cousins

IMG_4207

This afternoon, Alice came over with Uncle Johnny and Auntie Joy.  Janie was so excited to see them that she skipped her nap entirely.  So did Alice.

IMG_9431

They started out playing together but then if Alice got too grabby for her taste, Janie would hide whatever she was grabbing in the bedroom and close the door.  I guess we still have a little more work to do with this whole sharing-with-your-cousin thing.

Breakfast with Henry

IMG_8936

This morning we met up with “Auntie Pizza” (Auntie Teresa) and “Baby Hungry” (Baby Henry) for breakfast.  Initially, Janie didn’t want to share her banana but then, on her own, broke it in half and gave Henry a piece.  Aw….

IMG_8938

We had breakfast at the Ferry Plaza and the two kids shared a plate of avocado together.  Actually, Janie finished off the plate after Henry was done with his share.

IMG_8947

IMG_8948

Afterward, we hung out by the water and Janie was so sweet to him.

IMG_8967

It made Mommy a little nervous but she did great.

IMG_8966

We also stopped at the playground across the street and Janie loved the tall slide.

IMG_8958

She also showed Baby Henry how to go down the shorter slide.

IMG_8955The best part of this playground visit, Janie figured out how to pump a swing!  She sat down on the big-kid swing and watched the older girl swinging next to her and started imitating her.

I was so proud and a little relieved that I didn’t have to teach her. 😉

IMG_8970

The next stop was the Disney Store where Janie introduced Henry to her pal Olaf.  He clapped the whole time.

IMG_8972

We then went to Old Navy where Henry got two pairs of shoes and Janie got a cool Superman shirt and socks.

IMG_8974

What a fun morning!
