IKEA

IMG_7118

This morning, we went to IKEA and got there a little before it opened.  I guess their cafe is open beforehand and they sell really cheap breakfast.  Mama also got free coffee.

IMG_7120

IMG_7121

Janie had some sausage while Mama had heart-shaped waffles.

IMG_7122

IMG_7131

What I love about IKEA is that everything is so kid-friendly from the bathroom sinks having step stools to the kid-sized rails on the stairs.

IMG_7125

Janie had a great time in the kid’s section.

IMG_7126

IMG_7129

She cooked, went through the tunnel, and loved the chair that has a shade that covers her up completely.

She sat so quietly inside at one point that she startled a person walking by when she popped out.

IMG_7132

For lunch, we picked up Thai food and ate with Mama’s friends at work.  What a fun morning!

IMG_7133

She even got a quick nap on the drive home.

Monday

IMG_7066

This morning, Janie went with Mama to her doctor appointment.  She waited patiently with Mama and stayed quiet during the visit.

IMG_7079

IMG_7080

As a reward, we went to The Disney Store.  We did some browsing and Janie said “hello” to Nemo and Sven Reindeer.

IMG_7073

Upstairs, they have a coloring area and she got a Winnie the Pooh picture.

IMG_7075

What’s funny is that they had every color except yellow!

IMG_7071

They also played clips from different movies and she watched one of the Lilo and Stitch songs as well as one from Frozen.

IMG_7077

IMG_7105

In the afternoon, we went outside for a tea party.

IMG_7108

Then she had a tasty snack of carrots, tomatoes, flatbread, and hummus.

IMG_7110

Later in the evening, I found her rolling around with GG inside her laundry hamper.

Dim Sum and Selfies

IMG_6950

After the aquarium, we had lunch at Ton Kiang.  There were so many things to eat there!

IMG_6955

I think her favorite is the char siu bao but the veggies came in a close second.

IMG_6957

While we waited for the check, we took some pictures and Janie used Mama’s phone to take some pictures.

IMG_1947

IMG_6972

Here’s her picture of Mama – how lovely.

IMG_1949

IMG_6969

Then she took a picture of Dada.  Not bad.

IMG_6958

Then she took a selfie.  Funny girl.

Ferry Plaza and Playground

IMG_6877

This morning, Janie woke up and asked, “where we going?”  She does that just about every morning.  I told her “Farmers’ Market” and she popped right out of bed.  She was excited to run free and buy some “fruta”.

IMG_6880

It was sunny and warm outside and she asked for her sunglasses.

IMG_6882

In addition to buying some yummy plums, we also picked out pretty flowers to bring home.

IMG_6883

IMG_6884

Before lunch, we went to the playground across the street and she really wanted to go on the big slide.

https://youtu.be/6KiSf8Gsu9E
She also tried the spinning ride today and got plenty of laughs.  It makes me dizzy just watching her.

IMG_6892

She also got to pick some flowers in the grassy area nearby.

IMG_6893

IMG_6888

IMG_6899

We had lunch at the Ferry Plaza and she had a hearty meal of miso soup and salmon rice.

IMG_6909

Before heading home, she also got a little bit of vanilla and chocolate soft serve.

IMG_6915

This kid is loving her “summer vacation” with Mama.

Walnut Creek

IMG_6840

We went to Walnut Creek this morning to do some shopping and then met up for lunch with Janie’s friends Vivian, Avia, and Sabrina.  We stopped at BuyBuyBaby and then Target to pick up a new water bottle.  We haven’t been able to find Janie’s water bottle since we returned from Monterey.  It was super hot in Walnut Creek (up to 100 degrees!) so this was a necessary purchase.

IMG_6841

Lunch was at Delica’s where they have a dining room with a train table.

IMG_6846

Janie shared her edamame with Vivian and had some of Mama’s pancake too.

IMG_6843

IMG_6847

She also hung out with our littlest ones of the Cheeksters – Avia and Sabrina.

By the time we were done eating, it was super hot outside and we were ready to head back to 70-degree San Francisco.

Shopping with Mama

IMG_6755

We had lots of errands this morning and this kid did a pretty good job following directions so after a trip to Target and lunch, we stopped for ice cream before going to Trader Joe’s.

IMG_6756

She chose vanilla, as usual, and insisted on a cone AND a spoon.

IMG_6759

She also scored a strip of flower stickers.  We love TJs.

IMG_6760

It was a pretty busy morning so it was no surprise that she snoozed on the ride home with stickers still in her hand.

IMG_6761

Later in the afternoon, she handed out the stickers to her friends at the tea party.  How nice of her.

Big Cousin

IMG_6733

This afternoon/evening, we went to Toni and Thomas’ house to hang out and BBQ dinner.  It was warm in Redwood City and Janie enjoyed hanging out on the balcony.

IMG_6740

She also did some doodling on the chalkboard.

IMG_6739

In the evening, Janie was a big helper and kept Little Toni company while Auntie Jia was busy with Thomas.

IMG_6741

She became the official Baby Cousin entertainer and also learned how to soothe Toni with some rocking and shushing.

IMG_6742

IMG_6743

She also liked to say “hi” and tickle her feet.

Hopefully Janie will be just as helpful with Baby Brother.

Monterey: Day 2

IMG_6691

This morning, we got up early and went back to the aquarium at 9:30am when they opened.  It was much less crowded and Janie was able to see the rest of the exhibits in less than 2 hours.

IMG_6693

DSC_6670

The kelp forest was really cool and she loved seeing the sharks.

DSC_6668

She was very scared of the water tunnel but was able to stand underneath with Dada.IMG_6714

We tried to take a photo together in the tunnel but you can’t tell that it’s water rushing over us.

IMG_6696

This was one of her favorite parts: the corral tunnel.

DSC_6691

She got to see a tank full of anemones, Nemos, and Marlins.

DSC_6676

In the morning, no one was crowding the penguins so she got a clear view of them.

DSC_6688

https://youtu.be/4ylyxH359c4

She also went to the touch pool to feel some of the creatures on display.

DSC_6680

One cool thing about this aquarium is that they have Janie-sized sinks so Mama doesn’t have to pick her up to wash hands.  Wish we had one of these in all public restrooms.

IMG_6703

Janie rode on Dada’s shoulders to get a better look at the giant octopus.  He was huge!

IMG_6720

After the aquarium, we walked over to a breakfast place and Janie got to ride the train with Big GG while we waited for a table.

IMG_6722

They hooked her up with some crayons and she colored in the whale on her menu.

IMG_6723

We ordered her the “Mickey pancake” and it was SO BIG!  She ate the ear and that was all she could manage.

IMG_6689

Once breakfast was done, we checked out of what she calls our “Manta Ray (Monterey) House” and headed up to Redwood City to visit Toni and Thomas.  What a fun mini vacation!!

Monterey: Day 1

IMG_6571

Today we took Janie to Monterey as a special vacation before Baby Brother arrives.  On the drive over, she had oatmeal in the car and then took a little nap.

IMG_6574

When we arrived, we dropped off our bags and car at the hotel.  At the front desk, they gave her a gift bag.  There was a baby turtle, which she said was “for Baby Brother” and a coloring book with stickers and crayons inside.

DSC_6651

After the bell desk took our luggage, we headed over the the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

DSC_6657

Janie loved this gift shop that had a plush toy of almost every sea animal you can think of.

IMG_6583 IMG_6589

The Deep Sea exhibit was pretty cool and she was so excited to see the hammerhead shark and sting ray.

IMG_6592

IMG_6598

The puffins were cool too.  They came right up to the glass to greet her.

IMG_6602

For lunch, we walked up the hill for some Mexican food.

IMG_6619

After lunch, we headed back to the hotel to check in and rest up a bit.

IMG_6610

IMG_6615

IMG_6620

She found sunglasses in her gift bag and tried them on.  They were a little too big for her face.

IMG_6623

In the afternoon, we took Janie down the street to a small beach that had lots of cool little rocks to collect and throw into the water.

IMG_6630

IMG_6633

IMG_9942

IMG_9960

IMG_9964

Initially, she was afraid of the water but warmed up very quickly and ended up not wanting to go back to the hotel.  The water was pretty cold but it didn’t seem to bother her.

https://youtu.be/2l4VXBJK2WE
She had a fun time collecting rocks and “feeding the ocean”.  She talked to Mr. Ocean the whole time and each time the waves would surprise her from behind, she would say, “you scared me, Ocean!”
