HFM

Dadas stayed home with Peanut today and he was in good spirits.

Unfortunately, by the evening, his rashes had turned into blisters. We suspected he had caught Hand-Foot-Mouth Disease but it was looking a lot worse than the description. The blisters had spread up to his thighs and diaper area too. This is a photo of his knee. Poor baby.

After consulting one of Mama’s doctor friends, we decided to take him to the ED at Children’s Hospital Oakland (Mama’s old workplace).

He was in a great mood and did a good job opening his mouth and allowing the doctor to examine him. He also allowed them to poke some of the blisters for the lab tests they needed.

He was so good and so charming to everyone that he scored an Otter Pop while we waited for our discharge papers. Turns out he had eczema coxackium, which is a more severe version of HFM.

After 3 hours in the ED, it was way past his bed time and he fell asleep in the car on the ride home. We got home a little before midnight.

Birthday Oysters

Today we went to San Francisco to get Janie some birthday oysters. We thought it would be fun to take the ferry over!

The first leg of the ride was from Alameda to Fisherman’s Wharf first and passed by the new bridge.

What a beautiful day on the bay!

We arrived at the Ferry Building just before 11 and we got into Hog Island Oyster Co on their first seating.

Janie was so happy and thoroughly enjoyed her oysters.

Peanut enjoyed the bread and thought it needed a little lemon juice.

After lunch, Janie gave Mama this note. I like how she drew a bowl and spoon for Peanut.

Lucky for him, he got a cone today!!

The kids got an hour of free swim with all the floaties and toys available to them.

Peanut didn’t want to swim so he had lots of snacks.

After swimming, we all had pizza and snacks.

Then it was time for the birthday cake!

Henry and Hudson loved it.

Here are all the kids in one photo.

Janie also got a photo with her swim instructor who helped host the party.

Happy 6th Birthday, Big Girl!

Ellie’s Party

Janie went to a second birthday party in the middle of Maya’s party. It was for her neighbor friend Ellie and it was a Frozen Party!

She met Elsa and Batman, who also made balloon animals. Janie got a blue giraffe.

They also had a magic show and Janie really got into it! Her favorite part was the peanut butter and jelly trick.

In addition to the Frozen bounce house, Janie also enjoyed a cupcake complete with blue frosting and an Olaf candy on top.
