poop, eat, sleep

I’ve realized that we’ve taken Janie’s regularity for granted.  When one of what I call the baby trinity is off, the others are off too.  It seems that our Little Janie is almost back to her old self this afternoon.  She’s still probably teething but what’s made a big difference today was that she pooped 3(!) times this afternoon.  She had been backed up for about two days, which can probably make anyone cranky and less hungry.  Today she drank a bottle of milk while we were out in the morning and actually took her usual 2-hour nap at noon, which she usually fights on the weekends.  Her 2:00 pm snack was still a little difficult (i.e. keeping her mouth shut, turning away from the spoon) but her 6:00 pm meal was back to normal (i.e. opening her mouth and leaning in for the spoon).  I was so relieved that I nearly cried when she finished her bowl of purees this evening.  Lastly, when it was time for bed around 8, she rolled onto her side and fell asleep.  Yes! All is well with the world when your baby poops, eats, and sleeps.

Fun at Uncle’s House

We went down to Uncle Jason’s this evening and Janie had a fun time.  His apartment is a decent size and the best thing about it is that he has a huge empty floor space with carpet in the livingroom.  When Janie comes over, she takes up the whole space with her belongings and trusty sidekick Koa.

She helped herself to the puffs when Mommy wasn’t looking.

In the bedroom, she enjoyed time in front of the full-length mirror.

And at dinner at the restaurant next door, she sat by herself in the highchair and ate puffs at her leisure.

More teeth soon?!

These past couple days have been a little rougher than usual for us.  Janie started fussing more at night and her naps and feeds have been a little less predictable during the days.  In fact, this afternoon she flat out refused her 3:00 pm bottle with Mirian.  This is the bottle that she usually guzzles down in 5 minutes because she’s just woken from her 2-hour nap.  When I tried to give it to her at 7:00 pm, she refused is again and preferred to nurse.  Dumping the milk down the sink was so painful to see but I couldn’t keep it.

She also didn’t want to eat her purees that evening, which started to worry me.  Later that evening, she had a hard time sleeping (just like the night before) and when I put my finger in her mouth to check her gums she screamed.  I didn’t feel any teeth but something’s hurting in there.  So I gave her a frozen teething ring and she loved it.  I fact, I had to give her a second one after the first one wasn’t cold anymore.  So, let’s chalk this weirdness to teething.  I gave her some Tylenol and she slept for most of the night.  Finally.
