Auntie Yoon’s house

IMG_3104

For lunch, we went to Auntie Yoon’s house.  Janie slept through the first half of our visit  but woke up in time to eat and play for a bit.

IMG_3109

These two monkeys had a fun time climbing on the furniture and Alice was like Janie’s little shadow.

It took a little time for her to warm up after waking up but she quickly snapped out of it once Auntie Yoon offered her some mandarin oranges.

IMG_2278

Too bad Baby Trevor was sleeping the whole time because she didn’t get to see much of him.  Oh well, maybe next time when he’s bigger.

For the rest of the afternoon, while we were back at the hotel, Janie kept saying “Auntie Yoon gave me mandarinas (mandarin oranges in Spanish)”.

Farmer’s Market

IMG_3084

This morning, we were all up early and Janie got some hammock time with Daddy before leaving for the day.

IMG_3071

We went to the Farmer’s Market at KCC for breakfast and Janie scored a free apple banana from the nice man at the Thai fruit stand.

IMG_3080

Then she got a bunch of longan fruit from Yai and did a good job eating around the seed in the middle.

IMG_3082

IMG_3077

Daddy also took her around to get some free samples of kettle corn.

IMG_3088

When she got tired, she sat in Alice’s stroller since Alice wasn’t using it anyway.

pool and beach

IMG_3029

This afternoon, we played in the pool for a bit.  Janie was too scared to go in the pool and was perfectly happy playing with her bucket and shovel.

IMG_3031

She sat next to Yai on the lounge chairs until she warmed up to the idea of sitting in the water.

IMG_3034

Eventually, she ventured down into the shallow part o the pool.  That was pretty much all she was willing to do today and it was good enough for us.

IMG_3037

IMG_3044

It was getting cold by the pool so we moved out to the beach where it was much warmer and not as windy.

IMG_3041

This kid was in heaven with her bucket and shovel. With the water, she made soup and meatballs.

IMG_3046

IMG_3048

She also made “cakes” on Mommy’s feet and legs.

IMG_3064

Daddy also bought everyone ice cream and we all enjoyed it on the beach.

IMG_2221

Janie had lots of sand on her hands but it didn’t slow her down one bit.

North Shore

IMG_2982

Today we went to North Shore.  Janie had some garlic shrimp but liked the mandarin oranges that Mommy packed more.

IMG_2986

Here is Janie in front of the famous shrimp truck.

IMG_2989

One of the best parts of this stop was seeing a bunch of “pollitos” (baby chicks) following their mama all around.

IMG_2995

Our next stop was Matsumoto Shave Ice.  Janie loved taking pictures in the cut-out board.

IMG_2998

Here she is posing with Alice.

IMG_3007

The shave ice was really yummy and both girls had such a good time scooping, sucking, and, eating the tasty treat.

IMG_3026

It also got really messy once it all started to melt.

IMG_2211

Janie also got a couple bites of Mommy’s apple pie from McDonald’s.

IMG_2202

IMG_3019

Then the sugar high started and these two were all over the place for the next half hour.

IMG_3022

Our last stop was Laniakea Beach where we saw Olive, one of the “regulars”, out on the beach.

IMG_3025

She loved seeing the turtle but loved playing the sand even more.

Sunrise and Spam

IMG_2960

This morning Janie and Mommy woke up super early (2-hour difference in Hawaii).  We strolled along the water while the moon was still out and headed out to the beach.

IMG_2962

The family was out there too so we watched the sun come up and Janie had some oatmeal with Yai.

IMG_2965

Janie also helped Alice get used to the sand.  She’s not a big fan of the beach right now.

IMG_2969

Then we walked down to McDonald’s for a local plate of spam, eggs, and rice.  Janie loved drinking out of her “milk jug”.

IMG_2972

On our way back to the hotel, Janie did a decent job keeping up.

IMG_2974

We woke up Daddy with his very own plate and Janie kept him company on the lanai.

Afternoon Fun

IMG_2897

Once we arrived in Waikiki and checked in, it was off to lunch!  Janie loved the ramen broth and so did Cousin Alice.

IMG_2907

After a quick bath, we went downstairs for Bubbies mochi ice cream.  Janie picked out the vanilla one.

IMG_2911

It was nice to finally be outside.  Janie made herself comfortable on one of the lounge chairs by the pool.

IMG_2909

Next stop was the beach.  This is what Janie had been looking forward to all this time.

IMG_2916

After a quick “Aloha” to Mr. Ocean, she was scooping and dumping.

IMG_2920

We played until the sun went down.  There’s nothing better than building sand castles at sunset.

IMG_2931

IMG_2943

She also didn’t need any time to warm up to Mr. Ocean this time around.  What a great first day in Hawaii!

IMG_2953

It was so much fun that she fell asleep during dinner.

Let’s go to Hawaii!!

IMG_2840

We had a very early morning and a long journey to Hawaii this morning.  It started with a train ride to the BART station at 6:15 am.

IMG_2841

We caught the 6:40 BART train to SFO and Janie loved riding the train while snacking on celery sticks.

IMG_2845

IMG_2846

We arrived at SFO by 7:15 and had plenty of time to have breakfast and relax.

IMG_2855

IMG_2859

On the plane, Janie checked out the safety card before take-off.

IMG_2862

IMG_2867

She was entertained by her iPad and watched “Finding Nemo” twice.

IMG_2874

In between the second round, she fell asleep and slept for over an hour.

IMG_2868

When she woke up, she finished the movie in time for landing.  The lady behind us also complimented her on how quiet she was the whole flight.  Good job, KK!

Tuesday night

IMG_2829

This evening, Janie rode her scooter to dinner.  She had to go uphill for most of the way.

IMG_2831

While waiting for dinner, Janie played with her flashcards and taught Dada colors, numbers, and animals in Spanish.

IMG_2833

She loved her soup and “carrot noodles”.  This is how she was eating her long noodles today.

Lunar New Year

IMG_2767

We went out for Dim Sum this morning for a late Lunar New Year celebration.

IMG_2765

Janie loved eating baos and gave chopsticks a try.

IMG_2772

Auntie Vyl also gave her a red envelope and $5 inside!  Although Janie didn’t understand the significance of the whole thing, she had a good time taking it out and putting it back in – over and over again.

IMG_2781

After everyone was done eating, we tried to get a photo of all 5 kids.  This was the closest I got when we were inside.  For once, Janie was not very happy about taking a picture and ran off.  At least they all had a good time playing with each other while we waited for the check.

IMG_2797

Then, just before we all headed home, I captured this very rare photo of them on the steps outside.  Amazing!!  Happy Year of the Ram!
