Monday morning

IMG_5331

On Monday morning, Janie was up earlier than usual and actually walked into the house herself and sat down at the breakfast table when we arrived at school.

IMG_5333

She usually wants to be carried in and asks to sit on a certain chair in the livingroom to warm up.  But today, she was able to sit and start her breakfast with her friends right away.

Last Camping Morning

IMG_5308

Today is Mother’s Day and Mommy woke up to these two little jokers.  Janie must have slept really well last night because she was in a great mood.

IMG_5313

For breakfast, all the kids had cereal and milk.

IMG_9880

The kids found an extra big banana slug near the campsite.

IMG_9882

Janie played her kazoo again while Mei Mei tried to stomp on it.

IMG_9871

Before the fire went out, Janie roasted one last marshmallow.  Her stool came in handy all weekend and went everywhere with her including the bathroom, picnic table, and campfire.  Everyone called her the “stool monkey”.

IMG_9874

Uh oh…that marshmallow is toast!

IMG_5317

What a fun camping trip and the mess on her face really shows it!  She slept the whole drive back to Auntie Jia and Uncle Jason’s house and when she woke up, she was all smiles.

Skipped Nap

IMG_5266

While lunch was being prepared, Janie drew some banana slugs.

IMG_5267

Auntie Vyl prepared some yummy noodles with veggies, chicken, and peanut sauce.

IMG_5273

Then, instead of taking a nap, Janie ran laps around the campground with Rowan and Auntie Vyl.

IMG_5259

IMG_5261

We also built a fire and Janie played with her painting notebook while Jack and Reese watched.

IMG_5275

She also learned how to roll dice during a game of “Pass the Pig”.  Actually, she was rolling pigs but she got the idea.

IMG_5274

Everyone snacked on fruit, cucumbers, salami, and cheese before dinner.

IMG_5276

We also had some early marshmallows and Janie was so happy.

IMG_5284

She roasted one next to Daddy but it went up in flames before she could eat it.

IMG_5295

Before dinner, Janie and Mommy did some relaxing in the tent.  No napping took place at that point either.

IMG_5303

Later, we all went out for Mexican food nearby since we didn’t have anything food prepared for that evening’s meal.  As expected, Janie passed out in the car on the way back to the campsite and slept for the rest of the night.  I guess that’s what happens when you skip your nap.

Evening Campfire

IMG_5234

After dinner, Janie was ready to go hang out in the tent.  She must have been exhausted from the day’s activities but I think she was just excited to be sleeping in a tent.  So, she changed into her PJs and hung out with her books for a bit.

IMG_5240

In the meantime, we started a fire and eventually she asked to come back out.

IMG_5236

She loves marshmallows and was very interested in watching everyone roasting them.

IMG_5239

I think she gobbled up 4 marshmallows that night while we were all preoccupied.

IMG_5242

We also put one on a stick and let her give it a try too.

cereal with milk

IMG_5207

Janie was so excited to go camping this morning that she kept her backpack on all morning once she was done packing it with her toys.  She even kept it on while she ate her cereal with milk.

IMG_5206

She kept saying “cereal and milk is yummy!”  I don’t know why I hadn’t given it to more often before but it’s gonna go in our regular rotation of breakfasts from now on.

Downtown Dinner

IMG_5164

Mommy had to pick up something from the mall so we all hopped on a bus together for an evening out.  We didn’t bring the stroller this time and Janie did a great job holding hands on the sidewalk and then agreed to riding on Dada’s shoulders when she got tired.

IMG_5167

For dinner, we went to a Thai noodle place and she entertained herself with her sea animals.

IMG_5170

She got her very own bowl of Tom Kha with rice and stayed relatively clean without a bib on.

IMG_5172

We took the train home after dinner and she really wanted to take a selfie.  Not bad, kid.

Lasagna

IMG_5145

We made lasagna for dinner tonight and Janie helped put handfuls of mozzarella in the ricotta.

IMG_5147

She also learned how to use a pepper mill today.

IMG_5150

Then she helped mix up the ricotta, eggs, and mozzarella together.

IMG_5156

The best part of making the lasagna was eating it when it was all done!

French Breakfast

IMG_5118

This morning, we went to a cute little French place for brunch.  Janie practiced sitting in a regular chair and did a great job staying in the chair and eating her waffle and strawberries.

IMG_5120

She also held Dada’s hand on the walk home.  Our Janie is back to her old self again.  Phew.

Corner Booth

IMG_5103

Whenever we got to Tsunami for dinner, they give us this corner booth since they don’t have any highchairs or booster seats.  When it’s time to eat the noodles and soup, she kneels up against the table to eat.

IMG_5104

And when she eats her edamame, she sits on her corner seat.  This evening, she asked Dada to hold her hand while she ate.

IMG_5106

She was also extra snuggly while she drank her milk.  I guess her 2-hour nap did her some good.

Sick Day

Around midnight, Janie woke up coughing and threw up a couple times.  She woke up every hour crying and calling out “MAMA!” and was miserable.  As a result both Janie and Mama did not sleep well last night.  Janie ended up sleeping on the sofa and Mama slept in Janie’s bed.  This morning, she woke up at her normal time but was not her usual self.

IMG_5041

So, Dada stayed home with her for the day while Mama went to work.  Janie spent the morning watching “Finding Nemo” while Dada worked.  She also went down for an early nap and slept 2.5 hours.

IMG_5040

Then for lunch, they went to Tender Greens for some chicken soup.  Look at those rosy cheeks.

IMG_1752

IMG_1751

She loved it and said, “The soup is yummy.  It’s the best one EVER.”  It was her first real meal for the day since she still didn’t have much of an appetite this morning.

IMG_5042

When Mama got home, she played playdough before dinner and then had a nice warm bath.

IMG_5043

She was making “pancake soup” with dessert.

IMG_5047

Hopefully we’ll have a more restful night tonight and she can go to school tomorrow.
