marathon morning

IMG_7983

The SF Marathon ran past our house today and we went over to Pier 28 to watch Uncle Jimmy finish.

Janie was super speedy on her tricycle this morning and did a good job staying out of trouble on the crowded sidewalk.

We watched the runners on the concrete block near the bridge and brought the cow bell too.

We met up with Zoe and Auntie Eleen and the girls took some time to warm up again.

Run to Dinner

IMG_7932

When Daddy arrived at the Ferry Plaza, we walked to dinner about 3/4 of a mile away.  Janie ran the whole way there.

IMG_7933

I don’t know where she got the energy for it.

IMG_7935

At the restaurant, as soon as the waitress came by, she loudly asked her, “Can I have mashed potato?!”  She was in a very out-going, energetic, and spunky mood this evening.

Chinatown

IMG_7907

This morning, we took the bus to Chinatown for some breakfast.  We didn’t bring the stroller and Janie did a good job holding hands and walking up and down the hilly streets.

IMG_7908

While we waited for the food, Janie did a letter search and colored designated letters a certain color.

IMG_7909

She also folded the paper into 6 sections and colored each one the colors of the rainbow.  She actually knows the order of the colors going from red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple.

IMG_7910

She gobbled up the porridge and also had some of Mama’s warm soy milk.

The ride home started out kind of crowded but then we had pretty much the whole bus to ourselves closer to home.

Morning at the Museum

IMG_7836

We got to the Cal Academy right at 9:30 when it opened and we got the whole aquarium to ourselves for the first 10 minutes.  Even Janie said, “the aquarium is so big!”  It certainly does look bigger when there aren’t people everywhere.

IMG_7837

Janie took Yai into the tunnel and dome, which is usually filled with kids.

This tunnel was completely empty too!

Janie gets so happy when she sees the family of giraffes.

IMG_7875

There was a table of kinetic sand in the gift shop.  It was so fun to play with!

IMG_7876

We had snack outside before heading home and Janie took a picture of Mama.

IMG_7878

We saw all that we wanted to see within about an hour. What a fun morning at the museum!!

Yai and Janie

IMG_0786

Janie has been having a fun time with Yai around.  Yai helps her get cleaned up in the morning, keeps her company while Mama is resting, and makes us yummy food.  Here’s a sweet photo of them together after lunch today.  Thanks for taking such good care of us!

Preschool Visit

IMG_7771

This morning, Janie went to visit her new preschool for the first time.  It was scheduled for 11-12pm and we were asked to pack a lunch for her.  We all went together and took the train to school.  That was an exciting change for her.

IMG_7787

Mama and Dada got to join her for the hour and we all met her teachers and classmates.

IMG_7788

She got to play with toys and briefly played with two 4-year-old girls who will be going to the older class next month.

IMG_7789

Before lunch, everyone sat on the rug for a couple stories.  She got to sit on Dada’s lap today.

IMG_7798

IMG_7799

Next was potty time and Janie used one of the little toilets all on her own and washed her hands at one of the Janie-sized sinks too.

IMG_7795

She joined the kids for lunch and was so happy to see that Dada had packed her one of her favorite meals: Kao Mun Gai (chicken rice with sauce, cilantro, and cucumber).  Dada had to leave for work but Mama stayed with her for lunch.  She opened the containers on her own and ate like a big girl.

IMG_7797

On our way out, we saw where the kids will be napping.  It’s in the room next door and they all have their own cots with bedding and blankets that they brought from home.

IMG_7803

What a great first visit!  It was super easy considering Mama and Dada were there with her.  We will have to see how Thursday goes when we drop her off for 2 hours on her own.  This is the entrance to her new school.  It’s part of Bright Horizons and Marin Day Schools.  We hope she will love it.

IMG_0774

To celebrate a successful visit, Janie got a special treat while Mama and Yai had lunch.

IMG_7802

She got some orange jello from one of the dim sum carts.  Cool!!

99 Ranch Market

IMG_7749

This morning was spent going to 99 Ranch Market to pick up a bunch of stuff that we needed for this week’s meals.

IMG_7747

Janie got to of her favorite things: dried shredded pork and Pocky.  She wanted to try the strawberry-flavored ones tonight.  By the way, that’s a giant mosquito bite on her left arm.  She got eaten alive last night when we had to leave the windows open.  It’s been so hot up here!  The AC at the market was a nice relief for all of us.

IMG_7750

Janie also got a hold of Mama’s phone again and started snapping away.

IMG_7762

I like seeing her perspective of the world.

IMG_7767

After we finished shopping, we went next door to have some pho for lunch.  This kid loves soup!

tricycle ride

IMG_7703

Auntie Jia, Uncle Jason, Toni, and Thomas came over this afternoon.  We all took a walk around the stadium and caught some of the Spartan Race.

IMG_7704

Janie rode her tricycle like a pro and had a lesson on following directions and traffic safety.  There was a lot of activity around the stadium and it was important for her to understand the rules.

IMG_7705

She now understands that she needs to stay close to the family and that she is supposed to walk and hold a grown-up’s hand while crossing the street while another person carries her tryke across.
