I love you, Mommy!

Aaaaaand I think this outfit is getting too small for me.

Janie loves movement. If she’s awake, she will hang out in your arms if you’re sitting in a chair but just for a couple minutes. What she prefers is to be in your arms while you’re walking around or doing the famous Monkey Dance that Daddy does so well. So this morning, she was placed into the infant carrier and got some movement while Mommy got to take care of things around the house.

I think she enjoyed it. This may be how we’ll spend part of the day at home. She gets her stimulation while Mommy gets to rest her arms a bit.

We’ve had a pretty smooth two weeks with Janie so far but this week has been a little more challenging. She’s been hungry more often and having a harder time falling asleep throughout the day. She still manages to get enough sleep overall but also has periods when she’s obviously full, clean, and very tired but has a hard time falling asleep and staying asleep.
Last night she cried at 1:30am for her usual feeding and once I fed her and changed her, I looked at her in the very dim light in our bedroom and saw two huge eyes staring up at me. Uh oh…she was wide awake. After an hour of walking her around and rocking her in the usual swaddle, she was still awake. Luckily, she wasn’t crying but each time I put her down thinking that she’d fallen asleep, she’d start fussing almost instantly.

After trying almost every trick that had worked for her in the past (in the dark) for a good hour and a half, nothing was working and I remember trying to stay patient and saying to her in my head, “I love you. I love you. I love you.” Ultimately, what did the trick was going out into the livingroom where my mom was sleeping and using the glider that I hadn’t needed yet. (Thanks to Ryan and Michelle for handing it down to us!!) I held her tightly in the perfect side-lying position on my chest, patted her firmly on the back to a steady rhythm, and rocked back and forth at a pretty swift speed until she started the snore in my arms at 3:37am. Phew, it worked. She stayed asleep when I put her in her bed and actually slept for a good two and a half hours before waking again at 6:13am. This trick worked again this afternoon when the same thing happened. Hopefully it won’t wear out too quickly.

After talking to a friend with a 4-month old and doing some reading, babies apparently have a growth spurt between 2-3 weeks of age and often display these behavior changes. Is our Little Janie growing again already?! If so, I hope this stage lasts only a couple days.

Janie’s uncle, auntie, and grandpa came up to visit this weekend.

On Saturday afternoon, Janie’s umbilical cord stump fell off. We let it air dry for a couple days and had it checked by the nurse today during our weight check visit. She said it looked healed and that it was ok to give her a bath. Yay!

So tonight, we got the bath ready and it was time for a little soak in the warm water. We had a feeling she wouldn’t like it and we were right. She cried most of the time but actually calmed for a bit in the middle.

It was a really quick bath and I was surprised we were able to get a few photos taken of the “traumatic” experience.

She stopped crying immediately after she was taken out of the water and wrapped up in her towel. What a funny girl.

She was also pretty chill while Daddy put on her diaper and PJs. It was almost time for a feeding so we had to give her a pacifier too, which kept her satisfied until we were finished drying and dressing her.

Here she is about 30 minutes later after getting all cleaned and fed.

Janie was wide awake this afternoon and she’s already making funny faces in our photos together.

One of our favorite things to do is hanging out in bed together in the middle of the day. Doesn’t it look like she’s telling us a funny story? Love it.

Janie went on her first outing in the carrier today. It was 70 degrees and she was nuzzled in Daddy’s chest under a thin blanket the whole time. Mommy and Daddy got a nice long walk in the sunshine and Janie got a monster nap.

Janie and Mommy got to have some girl time while Daddy surfed the internet.

On her birthday, she was lucky enough to meet 3 out of 4 grandparents. Grandma (“Yai”) was there for the whole labor and delivery process and greeted her after her bath.

Later that afternoon, her other Grandpa (“Ankong”) and Grandma (“Ama”) arrived to say hello to Janie for the first time.

Today, her other Grandpa (“Ta”) arrived.

She is one lucky girl to have so many people who love her.
