Watch us grow!

This morning, Janie made some wrapping paper for Vivian’s birthday present.

She did a great job on it and even drew Mr. Ocean in the middle for her. Can you see it?

Janie called this drawing “dolphin”. Hm…I can see that.

The drive back to SF was a smooth one. Janie was on her best behavior and we made a few stops to break up the trip a bit. Here she is watching Baby Einstein videos with a snack.

We also stopped at the Gilroy Outlets and Janie helped Daddy pick out some new work shoes.

She had fun shopping on foot and was intrigued by the mannequins in the store.

She really liked the jewelry display at Banana Republic and wanted to try on all of the bracelets.

Lucikly, I was able to distract her enough to transition back out of the store without having a meltdown or having to purchase something.

After shopping, Daddy had to finish up some work at the nearby Starbucks, so Janie got a special treat a couple doors down at the Baskin-Robbins. This pineapple coconut ice cream was perfect – the label also said that there was no added sugar. This kid was so happy.

Back at Starbucks, we sat down at a table and Janie worked on her drawing. Today when I asked her “What is that, KK?” She actually replied by saying “ocean”. Wow!

This is officially her first real drawing!

I think she understood how proud I was of her and even smiled for a picture with her drawing.

For dinner, we found a Mexican restaurant nearby. Janie must have been hungry because she ate almost all of Mommy’s beans and rice.

She also enjoyed the mariachi band playing behind her. Between bites, she would turn around to watch and listen.
When we got home, she was sleeping and managed to fall back asleep very quickly after a quick diaper change, milk, and brushing her teeth.

Janie loves coloring and today as she was doing this, she was saying “draw a picture”. Each time she made a scribble that resembled a letter, she would call it out.

Her scribbles are a little more sophisticated now. She said she drew “d” and “Q”.

Here is Janie’s latest coloring page. It’s a monkey (aka “badjoo” to her). Look at how she tried to color inside the monkey’s right arm. Cool.

I gave Janie a picture to color today and this is what she did. Not bad, huh?!

Here is Janie working on her latest masterpiece.

These pockets really come in handy when you have so many colors.

Here is the finished product.

Here’s the latest piece of artwork that our little girl has created. She’s really into circular scribbles and dots right now.

Luckily I found these Crayola markers that are rounded so making dots doesn’t ruin them!

Janie also likes to clutch multiple crayons or markers in her hand so having markers sort of forces her to let go so she can take the caps off.

We’ve also designated this old beat-up eating bib into an art bib. It’s perfect because it’s nice and long and has pockets for hands-free hoarding of all her supplies!

I gotta say that I’m pretty impressed with Crayola Washable Markers.

They really ARE washable! Everything comes out with just water – even from clothes!

Here’s what Janie made this morning. Her stokes are curvy now because she isn’t using her whole arm to scribble now. I’m amazed that she was able to pose like this. It’s too bad my phone didn’t focus quick enough.

Here’s the final product.
I also started a page to display all her artwork. There’s a link at the top in the header called “Art Gallery“.
