2-hour trial

IMG_7897

Today’s preschool visit was for two hours from 3pm-5pm.  We tried to put her down for a nap prior to the visit but she just laid there in bed for about an hour.  So of course, on the walk over to the school, she fell asleep in the stroller.  She slept for about 30 minutes on our walk and then another 30 minutes in the lobby.  That’s one of the doors to her classroom in the background of the photo.  Around 3:20, she woke up on her own and agreed to go to the classroom with Mama.  Before heading in, she went potty and then Mama helped her to the rug for story time and said a quick goodbye.

When Mama came back, she was found playing at the craft table with 4 other girls.  Her expression was so funny.  Too bad the photo is out of focus.  She did a lot of cutting this afternoon and the teacher reported that she did great today.  As expected, Janie did a lot of observation but what was unexpected was that she didn’t cry and she also refused the snack that teacher offered her.  Instead, she said, “I’ll eat my snack at home.”  Funny girl.  The teacher also said that she refused to let the teacher take her mug shot for her cubby.

We are so proud of our big girl being so brave today.  We have another 2-hour visit tomorrow and then her first official day of school is Monday 8/3.  We are hopeful that the transition will be just as successful.

Itchy

IMG_7804

Janie had 3 mosquito bites on her feet and she was furiously rubbing her feet together like a cricket.  It was so bad that she couldn’t settle down for a nap so I wrapped her feet in cold wet towels and it did the trick.

She was out in just a few minutes after.  Poor baby.  The mosquitoes love her blood as much as Mama’s.

Stuffed Animal Daycare

IMG_7623

This afternoon, Janie put all her stuffed animal friends down for a nap.  Little GG slept on the rocking chair.

IMG_7626

Olaf was on the reading chair.

IMG_7627

The elephant, otter, GoGo, and Squirt were all in the clubhouse.  Unfortunately, Janie only pretended to sleep.

IMG_7631

When everyone woke up from their naps, she served snack on the floor to everyone.

IMG_7632

It was purple meatballs for everyone!

IMG_7634

She later served tea and also made a rock salad.

IMG_7637

Although she didn’t take a nap, she was very well behaved and played quietly by herself for at least 1.5 hours today.

Wednesday

IMG_7543

Wednesdays are now reserved for another one of Mama’s doctor visits.  In the waiting room, Janie practiced her drawing.

IMG_7544

She played with her iPad during the 30-minute appointment while Yai played on her phone too.  When we got home, Mama got to take a nap while Yai took Janie for a walk to Safeway.

IMG_7546

For lunch, we had fried chicken and waffles at Yai’s favorite place.  Janie ate lots of chicken today.

IMG_7548

She walked home and did a good job holding Yai’s hand on the sidewalk.

IMG_7549

It was Yai’s turn to take a nap so Janie and Mama relaxed in bed watching Nemo.

IMG_7550

All the walking must have really tired her out because Janie took her first mid-day nap in two weeks.  Hooray for everyone!!

Picking up Yai

IMG_7526

This evening, we went to the airport to pick up Yai.  She’s going to be staying with us for a few weeks to help out.  Janie packed her bag and brought Big GG along for the ride.

IMG_7530

She enjoyed most of the ride down to SFO but then fell asleep just minutes before arriving at the curb.  This is what happens when she fights her mid-day nap.

IMG_7532

She woke up once we got home and and spent some time with Yai before bed.

IMG_7539

She even told her all about the animals you find in the ocean.  The hat and sunglasses were absolutely necessary for this occasion.

Sleeping in the Box

IMG_7324

Janie asked if she could sleep in the clubhouse tonight.  I’m not sure if she’s actually going to fall asleep in there but she was pretty determined to make it comfy with extra pillows and her blanket.

IMG_7329

Of course, GG had to also join her and stuck his head outside the window to say “goodnight”.

IMG_7330

Update: She actually fell asleep.  Not sure if she’ll sleep through the whole night but we will just have to wait and see.

Doctor’s Appointment

IMG_7157

Janie understands what it means when I tell her that Mama has a doctor’s appointment.  She knows that it usually involves sitting in the stroller, having a snack, and sometimes getting to play with the iPad.  On the way to the hospital, there was a farmer’s market so we picked up some kettle corn.  Yum.  She ate some while we waited for our turn and then got to do some drawing on the iPad.

IMG_7162

Today’s appointment was in a dimmed room where we had to sit and listen to Baby Brother’s heartbeat for 20 minutes.  Janie did a good job keeping herself entertained during the appointment and then fell asleep on the walk home.

IMG_7163

She also continued to sleep when we got home after a little bit of fussing.  It was great because Mama got to rest a bit more than usual today.  It was her first weekday nap ever since Mama went on maternity leave.

Shopping with Mama

IMG_6755

We had lots of errands this morning and this kid did a pretty good job following directions so after a trip to Target and lunch, we stopped for ice cream before going to Trader Joe’s.

IMG_6756

She chose vanilla, as usual, and insisted on a cone AND a spoon.

IMG_6759

She also scored a strip of flower stickers.  We love TJs.

IMG_6760

It was a pretty busy morning so it was no surprise that she snoozed on the ride home with stickers still in her hand.

IMG_6761

Later in the afternoon, she handed out the stickers to her friends at the tea party.  How nice of her.
