Last Day of School

IMG_6546

Today was Mama’s last day of work so Janie had her last day at My First Steps Daycare.  She woke up happy, took her shoes off when we arrived, and sat on her morning chair as usual.

Mama gave Tia Maria a box of fruit popsicles for a special afternoon snack.

Tia was nice enough to take some pictures and it looked like they all enjoyed them.

She also sent a coupe of photos of her eating lunch with all her buddies a few months ago.

Tia also had this made for her – it’s a big poster of her handprint (top left), all her classmates, and her two teachers (bottom right).

Janie was really good about giving hugs to her teachers and saying goodbye to her friends.  It was kind of sad to take home all of the stuff in her cubby.   I guess Mama was feeling a little sentimental.  Our little girl is going to start preschool like a big kid very soon.

New Day

IMG_6527

Weeks like these remind me that every day is a new day to start over.  This morning, Janie woke up smiling and she was easy to dress for school.  She was ready to go to school and was smiling the whole ride across the bridge.

She even walked herself from the car to the house and took her shoes off on her own.

Aaah…it’s nice to have my little girl back.

Sticker

IMG_0006

In the afternoon, Janie has a Spanish lesson and all the kids receive stickers at the end.  For some reason, they all put the sticker on their foreheads.  So this is what she looked like when I picked her up from school.

Busy Thursday

IMG_6387

This evening was going to be busy.  Janie got picked up from school and showed off her flower picture.

After picking up Dada, we headed over to UCSF Mission Bay for a tour of the new hospital where Baby Brother will be born.  Janie came along and did ok with staying with the group.

Right afterward, we parked the car at home and hopped on the train to the Apple Store.  Mama had to get her phone fixed.

Then we went to the Thai restaurant around the corner for dinner.

We didn’t get back until late but Janie went straight to bed when we got home.

shoes on

IMG_6166

This afternoon, Janie was in the house with her pals at school and was able to put her shoes on by herself.  That’s very helpful while Mommy signs her out.

I know she’s been able to do this for quite a while but I can’t help relish in her independence.

Early Bath

IMG_5965

After school, Janie said, “I threw up today.”  I couldn’t get details on why and when but she said, “I cried and teacher gave me a hug.”

So, as soon as we got home, she got a bath.  It sure does cut down on the bedtime routine when bath time is at 5:30.

Boogers

On our drive home from school, Janie randomly shares this with me:

Janie: Mama, Alice (her friend at school) was eating boogers.

Mama: Seriously? Did you eat boogers too?

Janie: No. That’s gross.

Mama: Did you tell her it’s gross?

Janie: Yeah.

Mama: And what did she do?

Janie: She ate the boogers.

miserable morning

IMG_5512

Janie has had a cough for the past 3 weeks and it seems like it’s gotten worse since yesterday.  In fact, she threw up her whole dinner on Monday night after a coughing spell.  This morning, she woke up so uncomfortable and was coughing pretty hard.  I think she’s gotten a new cold on top of the old one.  Unfortunately, she still had to go to school and it was not a pretty morning.  After getting dressed, she just wanted to be held.  She also cried and said, “I don’t wanna walk!” and pleaded for me to carry her to car.  I knew I couldn’t carry her all the way down to the garage so I just started walking out the door and down the hall and she cried and followed me until we got to the car.

In the car, she continued to cry and didn’t want to eat her cereal.  She got really quiet on the way to school and then cried again when we got to school.  Poor thing was so miserable but I just had to leave her.  The teacher said she would call if she didn’t perk up.  I didn’t get a call all day and she was smiling by the time I picked her up after work so it looks like she snapped out of her funk.  She was still coughing pretty hard but she had eaten well all day and had lots of energy this evening.  I’m so relieved.  This is one of those tough decisions that I hate making and I’m glad she’s ok.

Monday morning

IMG_5331

On Monday morning, Janie was up earlier than usual and actually walked into the house herself and sat down at the breakfast table when we arrived at school.

IMG_5333

She usually wants to be carried in and asks to sit on a certain chair in the livingroom to warm up.  But today, she was able to sit and start her breakfast with her friends right away.
