One-Month Check-up

This afternoon we took Janie to see the doctor for her one-month check-up.  The doctor was very impressed with her growth.  Just look at those cheeks and that belly!

Here are the stats:

Weight: 11 pounds!! (7 lbs. 10 oz. at birth)
Length: 21.5 inches (20 inches at birth)
Head Circumference: 36.5 cm (33.5 at birth)

At the end of the appointment she got a Heb B injection in her left thigh.  She started out so happy and calm even with the needle in her leg (as you can see in the photo) and actually didn’t start crying until the nurse pushed the solution into her leg.  Then it was all tears, screaming, and a beet-red face!  Even Jes was taken aback by the injection and picked her up right away. Poor baby!

One Month Celebration

Today, our baby girl turned one month old.  I can’t believe we’ve reached this point already!  To celebrate, we went out for dim sum and invited all her local aunties, uncles, and future playmates.

The food was tasty as usual and it was fun to see all the kids and their parents around the table.

It was a warm, sunny day so some of us walked to the restaurant together and back. Janie stayed awake for the whole stroller ride.

Here’s a photo of the three of us together.  Janie couldn’t be bothered to pose for the photo.  Apparently, the skylight above was far more interesting.

Awake

I went for a 3-mile walk with Janie and Koa today.  I expected Janie to get a good hour-long nap during our outing (as she usually does) but when I uncovered the stroller, I found a wide-eyed baby girl just enjoying the ride.  She managed to stay awake for the entire outing.

Weight Check

We went to the doctor for our last weight check of the month and Little Janie is gaining weight steadily.  Today, she weighs 8 pounds, 5 ounces.  Yay!

She was also much better with having her clothes and diaper taken off without crying.  Good baby.

First Stroller Ride

It was a sunny 72 degrees outside so Janie got to take a ride in the stroller for the first time.  Daddy went for a run while Mommy and Yai took her around the park with Koa.  We also discovered that Koa is very protective of Janie when we’re outside.  If he’s walking in front of her, he looks back every couple seconds to check on her.

First Doctor’s Visit

This afternoon, we took Janie to her first pediatrician appointment.  The first thing they did was weigh her and measure her length.  We had to take all her clothes off including her diaper and she ended up peeing all over the exam table. Oops.

Dr. Kaplan is a really cool doc and she was impressed with Janie’s weight gain in such a short amount of time.  Turns out they gave us the wrong weight at birth.  She actually weighed 7 lbs, 10 oz. instead of 7 lbs, 1 oz. at birth.  The nurse missed a zero that day and gave us the wrong reading.  At discharge, Janie weighed 7 lbs, 1 oz., which was a loss of 7%.  The docs weren’t worried and just recommended that I continue feeding her as I had been in the hospital.  At the doctor’s office, which was 24 hours after discharge, she had gained back 4 whole ounces!!! Woohoo!  That meant my milk had come in and that she was eating well.  So she is now at 7 lbs. 5 oz. and we have another weight check on Friday.  Hopefully she’ll be back to birth weight and well on her way to becoming a chunky monkey.

Welcome Home

Today was our discharge day and we had to wake her from a nap to change her clothes and strap her into the car seat.  She was not pleased with either.

The car seat seemed too big for her and she cried and cried until Daddy started swinging the seat around.  She was asleep within just seconds and seemed to also love the car ride home.

When we arrived, she had 3 grandparents and a doggie at home waiting to greet her.

Here she is all settled into her portable bassinet!  Hope you like it here, Janie!
