Better Day

IMG_4571

The morning started out well today.  Looks like she had eggs, sausage, and tomatoes.

IMG_4572

Daddy dressed her in a cute dress and they headed out to the zoo.

IMG_4574

What a fun morning!

IMG_4573

For lunch, she wanted noodles so they went to Namu for Japanese food again.

IMG_4575

She had some tempura veggies and asked Daddy, “Are you SURE this is broccoli?!”

Friday with Daddy

IMG_4557

Mommy had a class today so Janie stayed home with Daddy.  The morning started out well since she was watching Nemo while Daddy was working from home.

IMG_4558

When it was time to leave the house, she had taken her skirt off and refused to put it back on.  Here she is on the floor protesting.

IMG_4559

She was put on “time out” and ended up falling asleep for her nap.

IMG_4560

When she woke up, she still didn’t want to put her skirt or pants on so she just laid in bed until she decided it was s good idea.  Luckily for Mommy, she came around soon enough to get out of the house to meet Mommy outside of her class.  Mommy and Daddy were happy because she really needed to run around and use of some energy.

IMG_4569

On the way home, we stopped at The Yard since Daddy had skipped lunch (because of all the protesting).  She also hadn’t eaten much for lunch either so she had some of Daddy’s pork, rice, and veggies.

IMG_4562

Not sure what was wrong with her today but she was super loopy for the rest of the day.  Hopefully tomorrow will be better because Mommy has one more day of class.

Hillstone

IMG_4526

We went out for steak tonight and Janie was having a fun time playing with the camera today.

IMG_4533

While we waited for the food, she colored and just hung out like a big kid.

IMG_4536

She also ordered her own milk from the waiter by asking “Can I have some milk, please?”  Unfortunately, she was hard to hear and Mommy had to repeat it for her.  She finished this whole glass after dinner.

chopsticks

IMG_4507

We had noodles for dinner tonight and Janie gave chopsticks a try.  Both Mommy and Daddy were amazed that she actually picked up the noodles on her own.  Too bad she lost interest after a couple tries.  I guess using your fingers is much more efficient.

Zoo

IMG_4453

We went to the zoo again this weekend and Janie just loves the flamingos.  She even tried to be one.

IMG_4455

The penguins were pretty funny today too.  One of them was swimming really fast and then doing jumps out of the water.

IMG_4458

The hippo statue is always a hit and today she said she was “driving”.

IMG_4460

Our almost-3-year-old was looking pretty sassy today with her hands on her hips.

IMG_4461

There were lots of flowers to pick this morning.

IMG_4462

At 11:30, we snagged a good spot at the grizzly bear pond.

IMG_4465

They threw live trout into the pond and the bears caught them right in front of us.

IMG_4472

Janie got a little scared when one of them got up on her hind legs and walked really close to the glass.

IMG_4475

Janie took a peacock picture today and I found  her first one from 10/6/13.  These pictures are 18 months apart.  What a difference!

IMG_4478

For lunch, we had some pho and Janie gobbled it all up.

IMG_4480

Such enthusiasm in this little one!!

IMG_4483

IMG_4485

Our last stop before heading home was 99 Ranch Market.  She really liked seeing all the live seafood.

IMG_4489

On our way home, she passed out and slept for a good two hours when we got home.  It was a very exciting morning.

Sunday Breakfast

IMG_4438

This morning, Mommy made rice porridge the way that Yai used to make it for her when she was Janie’s age.  We ate at the coffee table with the window open.  It’s the closest thing we have to a balcony.

IMG_4443

It had all the fixings including “salchichas” (sausage in Spanish).

IMG_4446

Mommy joined her at the coffee table and Janie took a picture of her.  Janie’s getting pretty good with her aim and keeping her fingers off the lens.

IMG_4448

We also talked to Alice during breakfast.

IMG_4449

They played the “achoo” game together.

IMG_4452

I guess GG likes being on Janie’s head because she stayed there for the rest of breakfast.

tea parties

IMG_4419

Janie is back on pretend cooking and tea parties this week.  She was pretending to eat ice cream (green cup) this morning with her coffee (blue cup).

IMG_4416

IMG_4426

We also went outside to the courtyard to have a tea party with water.

IMG_4430

Then when it got too windy outside, we moved it inside and added celery and carrots.  She made soup and ate all the veggies too.

Evening Walk/Run

IMG_4403

This evening, we walked to Super Duper for dinner.  It was warm enough to eat outside and Janie enjoyed a tasty hamburger patty and pickles.

IMG_4404

Afterward, we walked home along The Embarcadero and Janie got to run free.

IMG_4405

She probably ran about 1/3 of a mile before we coerced her into getting back into the stroller.  She wanted to run more but her hands were freezing cold.

Sick Day

IMG_4342

At 3am this morning, Janie woke up coughing and was on the verge of throwing up each time.  I went to check on her and she was in tears and said, “I want to go over there.”  So, she slept on the sofa with a blanket rolled up as her pillow and had a blanket that could easily go in the wash.  The sofa is also a faux leather so it would be easy to clean if she did throw up.  She fell asleep almost instantly and I slept in the rocking chair next to her making sure I could be there in case she had another coughing spell.  Fortunately, she slept relatively well and I got a little shut-eye in spurts throughout the early morning.

IMG_4343

She looked miserable when I got up for work so she got to stay home with Daddy today. For breakfast, she had a hard-boiled egg, soup, and fruit.

IMG_4344

I got periodic updates from home and here are some of my favorite text messages from him:

Trying to work with the artist in residence composing songs about Mommy going to work in the background is not super effective.

“Time for drums” while Daddy tries to draft emails is also not super effective.

IMG_4347

After the late-morning call, the two of them went out for lunch.  They had Japanese food and Janie discovered a more efficient way to eat noodles.  Daddy sent me the steps:

Step 1:  Hold out soup spoon.

Step 2: “Daddy you want to do it.”

Step 3: Profit.

She basically gets a bunch of noodles on her spoon at once instead of one at a time.

IMG_4348

Daddy didn’t mind because she can finally shuck her own edamame out of the shells without help.

IMG_4350

At the end of the meal, the manager came out and gave Janie a whole box of Pocky because he was impressed with how well she sat through lunch and also thought she was cute.  Boy oh boy…she is already benefiting from her cuteness.  Luckily, she was ok with just one stick before her nap.

IMG_4351

She took a nice long afternoon nap and was still sleeping when I got home from work.  In fact, I had to open the blinds and bedroom door to wake her.  She also remembered right away that Daddy had promised her 2 more Pocky sticks after her nap.

IMG_4352

Before dinner, Janie rode her tryke to Safeway to burn off the chocolate.

IMG_4353

She also had some milk while she read the snake pamphlet that she got from the pet store last week.  Looks like quite a successful sick day for both Janie and Daddy.  She should be well enough for school tomorrow.
