31 months

These months are just passing by so quickly lately.  In fact, I hadn’t realized Janie had turned another month older until it was almost time for bed.  So, here are her photos with Senor Fatty Duck Duck.

Highlights from this past month:

  1. Language: Her phrases are so much more expressive and elaborate lately.  It’s fun to listen to her while she’s playing, sitting in the backseat of the car, or just in the stroller.  It’s constant.  Here are some examples:  “It’s so nice, Mommy.”; “What’s his name?”; “I know, Mama.”; “It’s too big. Cut it first.”; “Not right now.”; “No, I’m busy.”; “I don’t want it. I’m all done.”; “Good idea!” “Let’s count. How many?”  She’s also figured our her pronouns and possessives such as mine, yours, me, and you.  Finally!  She’s also been labeling everything around her as “my ____”.  Sometimes she gets carried away and will say to me “I go pee pee, my mom”.
  2. Spanish is also becoming a lot more spontaneous and natural in her everyday language: “Mira, mama (Look, mama)”.
  3. Visual Motor Skills: She is really into drawing a face and imitated drawing a person with a demonstration.  She can draw a vertical line, horizontal line, circle, and cross now.  Her Lego buildings are also starting to look a little more elaborate than a standard tower.
  4. “Reading”: Janie still loves her books and has memorized her favorite ones including those that are longer.  She can recite “An Awesome Book of Love”, “Slipper Fish”, and “Pout Pout Fish” pretty well now.
  5. Singing: It seems like a live with a constant soundtrack of her repertoire of songs.  Who needs to run with music when you have a toddler in the stroller?!
  6. Travel: Janie flew on a plane again and did a great job commuting to the airport on foot.  We took BART this time and didn’t bring the stroller with us.  We also applied for Janie’s first passport in preparation for our trip to Mexico over Christmas.
  7. School is going well and she doesn’t cry anymore at drop-off.  I can hear her talking to herself “I go to school. No crying.”  It’s very sweet.
  8. Halloween: Janie dressed up as Piglet and spent the evening with Cousin Alice on her birthday.  She was so excited to be piglet and also assigned Eeyore to Daddy.
  9. Janie also spent a full week with Mommy while Daddy was on a business trip.  She enjoyed the FaceTime calls and photos that Daddy would send.
  10. Eating: She is still a good eater and had her first fancy dinner with the family this past month.  She continues to amaze us by her sophisticated palate ranging from carrots to noodles to raw onions!  And of course, her favorite treat is ice cream.
  11. Self-care: Washing hands is one of her favorite things to do now and she does a pretty good job on her own as long as she can reach the faucet.
  12. Growth: Janie is now wearing 3T and 4T clothes and Size 7 shoes.

She is at a really fun but frustrating age right now.  She makes me laugh everyday and has really taught me how to be the most patient I have ever been in my life.  How can a kid be so independent but still cry sometimes when Mommy goes to the bathroom without her?

Happy 31 Months, KK!!
